THEY GROW UP WAY TOO FAST

Written By: Stan C. Countz

THEY GROW UP WAY TOO FAST
Words by Stan C. Countz

VERSE 1
It seems like only yesterday
I was walking them to school
We’d hold hands on our way
As I was layin’ down the rules

We’d stop and drop, skip and hop
I was the chief and the captain
Nowadays they’re boy crazy and
They’re hip hoppin’ and rappin’
Whatever happened?

VERSE 2
We’d go on trips together
We’d laugh and sing all day
Today we rarely eat together
And they never seem to obey

It seems like only yesterday,
I’d push them on the swing
We’d laugh and play and sing all day
There wasn’t anything
we couldn’t do or say

CHORUS
It used to be, we’d play and sing
talk about our hopes and dreams
Looking back, it seems to me
We really had a blast
Those days are like dreams to me
Too bad good times never last
Nowadays, it seems to me
They grow up way too fast

BRIDGE
Way back when I was still their hero
I’d tell them of my past glories
And they’d sit still and listen
Today it’s a different story
Nowadays, I’m battin’ zero
And everything is dull and boring
And now I’m the opposition

VERSE 3
Nowadays they’re much older
They’re way too cool to sing and play
Nowadays they’re much bolder
They wish that I would just go away
They no longer cry on daddy’s shoulder
And they don’t think I have a thing to say…

CHORUS
It used to be, we play and sing…
Too bad good times never last
I know I can’t live in the past
It seems to me…they grow up way too fast.

SPIN IT

Written By: Stan C. Countz

INTRO
Thought all social ills could be resolved
by raising money for a worthy cause
So I got a lot more involved
I even chaired the fireman’s ball
I soon became more than a social drinker
Swallowed it all: hook line and sinker
Never claimed to be a deep thinker
Thought I was a lot more evolved

VERSE 1
Truth is losin’ out to manipulation
Can’t trust our own eyes and ears
Without a doubt we’ve lost our foundation
Can’t believe everything we see and hear
Truth is losin’ out to fear

VERSE 2
The quest for truth is a masquerade
We’re overworked and underpaid
Just wanna know we made the grade
Guess you could say I’m on a crusade
I’m afraid we've made a bad trade

CHORUS
Think with me for just a minute
If it’s a race, we wanna win it
Who cares if there’s disgrace
Or a grain of truth in it
All we really wanna do is spin it
It’s up to me and you to tell the truth
So who'll begin it?
Or do we wanna spin it?
Spin it to the right, spin it to the left
Spin it til they’re just plain out of breath
Spin it in the paper; spin it on the air
Spin it til they just don’t care

BRIDGE
I believed everything I’d read in the paper
Swallowed it all hook, line and sinker
Did what I could and did as I was told
Bought the same bill of goods we’ve all been sold
Never claimed to be a deep thinker
I think I’m just gettin’ old

VERSE 3
Sticks and stones can break my bones
but words alone I thought could not hurt me
Did what I was told and they assured me
It would all turn to gold and my friends would not desert me

CHORUS

THE BREAK MY HEART BLUES

Written By: Stan C. Countz

Don’t wanna feel the pain no more
Won’t ever be the same as before
Wish I’d never walked out that door
At least I know now what I’m lookin’ for
And it ain’t you; I done paid my dues
Wish you could walk in my shoes
Got a case of the break my heart blues

Now that we’re apart, I need a brand new start
The question is: can I ever trust my heart again?
Can I trust my heart, not to fall apart?
I’m as sad and lonely as I’ve ever been
The question is: can I ever trust my heart again?

The heart can trick you and it can deceive you
The heart can prick you and it can grieve you
The heart can bend you and it can even break you
But I could never leave or forsake you

Built my world around you
I’m so glad I found you
Didn’t mean to doubt you
It’s not the same without you
I’m as sad and lonely as I’ve ever been
The question is: can I ever trust my heart again?

Don’t wanna feel the pain no more
Won’t ever be the same as before
Wish I’d never walked out that door
At least I know now what I’m lookin’ for
And it ain’t you, I done paid my dues
Got a case of the break my heart blues

I asked you to be mine and you declined
In fact you down right refused
I hate to lose so I blew my fuse
and got a case of the break my heart blues
Got a case of the break my heart blues

Wish you could walk in my shoes
Here’s the news…I done paid my dues
Got a case of the break my heart blues
Got a case of the break my heart blues

LIFE IS A VAPOR

Written By: Sran C. Countz

CHORUS
Life is a vapor and it's fadin' fast
Like the mornin' paper, it ain't gonna last
Flowers may wither like the mornin' grass, so savor it while it lasts
The future may soon be the past
So live each day as though it may be your last

('cuz it just may be) so don't ever forget to keep the main thing, the main thing and never let anyone steal your dream

V1
I wasn’t watchin’ so I just missed it
I was too busy doin’ somethin’ else
May have missed my chance
to make a difference
But I’m always harder on myself
Playin’ the martyr, prayin’ for deliverance
Hope He won’t put me back on the shelf
I need a hand and I need His help

V2
Workin’ hard to make a livin’
Spendin’ too much time apart it just ain’t right
Just too busy takin’ to be givin’
Now it cuts my heart just like a knife
Hope this wasn’t my last chance
It was right before my eyes
Spent too much time tryin’ to make a livin’, to try to make a life

BRIDGE
Dance each dance; never sit ‘em out
Take a chance and don’t ever doubt
Follow your goal with your heart and soul
No one knows where the wind will blow
When it’s time to come or time to go
So take heart and take part in buildin’ the team
And don’t forget to remember that it’s never
Never as easy as at first it seems
To keep the main thing, the main thing
So never let anyone steal your dream

PRE-CHORUS
It’ll catch you nappin’ and, before you know it,
You’ve missed your chance to make your mark
Life just happens and, before you blow it,
You gotta do the dance and do your part
And live your life with all your heart

CHORUS

OUTRO
So live each day as though it may be your last
‘Cuz, before you know it, you’ll be lookin’ back
So take the time to laugh and cry
and don’t let your dreams ever die
Just take time to laugh and cry
and don’t let your dreams ever die
