Standing Penance

The island of Barbados has seen an unprecedented surge in the signing of world class music acts. Enter Standing Penance its newest rock product. These unlikely protagonists of the power chord have managed to stay true to a genre regarded as off the beaten track on home soil.

Standing Penance formed in September of 2009 and consists of 4 members.
Vocalist Tearhead was the former singer for another band called Birthright and the former co-vocalist for the hard rock band Broken Chain Links. Hanji, who has been performing in bands from the young age of the age of 14, finds his niche as the lead guitarist and second vocalist for the band. Lexx was a drummer for a band known as Dementia and was also the drummer for Broken Chain Links. Valkyrie, who is the youngest in the group, started off her musical journey by practicing her guitar in her room for fun before being approached by the band to play bass.

The band released their self-produced debut EP, “My Pain”, in July of 2010 in Barbados. They were signed to Steel Entertainment & Records LLC (Pennsylvania, USA) in July of 2012 and “My Pain” was re-released by the record label in August of 2012. The video for their single “Do Not Bury Me” produced by Vonley Smith, was completed and released in May of 2013 via popular rock/metal Youtube channel BlankTV & was featured in ROCKWiRED MEDIA LLC’s 25 Artists That Made 2013 Rock as well as The Top Video Picks for the year alongside Long time Rock & Roller David Bowie’s latest release “The Next Day”. Standing Penance is currently signed to Wasteland Records.

Standing Penance has performed on every major stage across Barbados, and they continue to build a strong fan base in Trinidad and all across the US and the UK boasting airplay on a large variety of Radio Stations worldwide. The band is ranked #1 on the Reverbnation rock charts in Barbados, and is also ranked in the top 10 artists across all genres.  With 2 completed albums under their belt, Standing Penance is proving to be a force to be reckoned with as they are touring in support of both albums.
