"Digital Nations Entertainment - New Release - Starbolt 9"

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 26, 2012
Starbolt 9 is here to fill a gaping void in modern rock-n-roll. Their self-described brand of “rocket-fuel driven space glam,” is a sound that lovingly pays homage to rock’s legendary past, all the while exploring new approaches, pushing boundaries and ultimately forging something entirely unique. Lead singer/songwriter Christian Dryden’s theatrical stage antics (conjuring shades of Jagger & Morrison) and dramatic vocal musings hearken to a time before “rock star” was an adjective. Live, the band exudes an energy and power that has garnered them a very strong following, and repeated tours of the East Coast, at prestigious venues such as Le Poisson Rouge and The Mercury Lounge (New York City), The Masquerade (Atlanta, Georgia) and JJ's Bohemia in (Chattanooga, Tennessee) as well as headlining an invite-only festival (All About Music) in Nashville, TN. The boys have shared bills with rock royalty such as Lady GaGa, Earl Slick, and David J. The band has drawn the praise of Sex Pistols founder, Glen Matlock, and provided the soundtrack and live music for the Off Broadway Musical, Sextacular! Sextacular!
"Starbolt 9 comes at rock with the enthusiasm of the unrealized sexual fantasies of a million restless teenagers." - The Deli Magazine, NYC
After their previous release, “The Rebirth,” induced a long courtship with the few remaining major record labels, the band opted to self-produce their follow-up release, “Human Strings & Mechanical Things.” In doing so, they were able to keep the music as dangerous and unapologetic as ever. The songs feature glitter-drenched riffs that seem to cry for the return of Ziggy Stardust and mythological imagery worthy of a Romance poet’s wildest, opium- induced dreams. Veeglam Magazine glowingly compares it to Morrissey, Suede, and Echo & the Bunnymen exclaiming, "This second album confirms that STARBOLT 9 is a name that should appear higher on the international pop/melodic rock bill!” The album is available online everywhere.

"Starbolt 9 Plays The Mercury Lounge"

Starbolt 9 comes at rock with the enthusiasm of the unrealized sexual fantasies of a million restless teenagers. New York has plenty of rockers cut from the cloth of the Strokes and Interpol; mopey musicians too cynical to truly get lost in their music. Not so with Starbolt. This has all the naive optimism of glam rock in its finest freakishness. Bordering on Broadway anthem on occassion, Starbolt gives an innocent pleasure with the roaring guitar solo of 'Bottomless,' and keyboard vamps of 'Say Yes.' These are episodes of largess that would make even Michael Hutchence blush. But hey, that's what makes rock fun.

"Veglam Webzine Review of “Human Strings & Mechanical Things”"

The most British sounding band from New York is back with a brand new album (we reviewed their debut “The Rebirth” even before it was officially released and were quite impressed!) Opening song “Thunder Love” sounds a bit like a punker SUEDE (still a big influence on this album) but we get surprised as soon as the second one, “Bottomless” starts, its melancholic tone reminding more of MORRISSEY(“Icarus” also sounds very MORRISSEY.)
While STARBOLT 9 sometimes get close to bands like ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN (“Rattles”, “Apocalypse”…), they also display a few 70s rock influences in their sound (“Phoenix Rise”, “I’m With The Painted People”), and they still manage to mix glam rock to 80s new wave very well (“Say Yes”, “The Curse.”)
This second album confirms that STARBOLT 9 is a name that should appear higher on the international pop/melodic rock bill! Let’s just hope that their music doesn’t lean too much in the U2 direction in the future as the border can sometimes be thin./Laurent C.

"Though steeped in the aesthetic of '70s glam, STARBOLT 9 brashly defies the scenesterism so prevalent in recent retro-rock."

Starbolt 9 combine the flash and swagger of British Glam with the pop sensibilities of 80's New Romanticism to forge a unique sound that conjures such seminal artists as Bowie, Suede and the Verve. All the while, Starbolt 9have not forgotten the key ingredients for success in the industry, the melodies are drenched in emotion, while also remaining pleasantly accessible, the stage performance includes overt showmanship, but the "show" is not contrived. They perform with a distinct edge and swagger, crying out to their audience with a sense of urgency and otherworldy rebellion that has raised more than a few eyebrows around the NYC area. - NEW YORK UNDERBELLY

"THE BIG TAKE OVER MAGAZINE REVIEW"

This Starbolt shoots out with a future punk glam rock arena garage sound that plumbs the highs and lows almost simultaneously, brining in some britpop movements and throwing them against brick walls while dancing like David Bowie at a Bunnymen concert. It’s a big sound, but at the same time, it flows simple and straightforward. This band is not afraid to shoot for the stars, but at the same time, they are not giving up on the joys of just rockin’ out. Touches of U2 spirals around The Strokes, but never enough for it to feel like they’re ripping anyone off, as sure vocals push sing-a-long choruses into fuzzed out crunches of guitar. Dreamy! Gritty! Wonderful. (starbolt9.com) - FALL ISSUE #63

It’s been a while since we last reviewed a band from NYC and the irony is that you won’t find much of a New York sound in STARBOLT 9 (formerly known as MESMER.) Their biography describes their music as melodious space rock and they actually combine Brit-pop elements with elegant glamourous rock influences.
The vocals remind me of The KILLERS from Las Vegas and you’ll find great guitar melodies in the vein of SUEDE (“1967”, “Blue Eyes”…) or even atmospheres reminding of the SMASHING PUMPKINS when they were a great band (the end of “Collar and Chain” especially.) The spirit of early The CULT can also be found in “This Time”.
My favourite song on this CD is probably “The Last Time” with its rock’n’roll NY DOLLS-like guitar riff and magnificent chorus…. And how crazy is that bass line in the last song, “The Happy Blind”? This song also has a great vocal line that all Brett Anderson’s fans will enjoy.
As you’ve probably understood by now, I can only recommend this album made of 10 shiny pop rock songs in which this mix of influences gave birth to a new rising star: STARBOLT 9./Laurent.

Bio

Starbolt 9 is melodious space rock, conceived by stellar frontman Christian Dryden. The band's fusion of classic glam rock, post punk and modern Brit-pop has raised more than a few eyebrows, earning them comparisons to legends such as David Bowie, Echo and The Bunnymen and The Verve, and the praise of Sex Pistols founder, Glen Matlock. Dryden's dark, ultra-expressive vocals and new romantic lyrical musings are complimented by the lush, hypnotic guitar lines of Mik Rodriguez, the psychedelic keyboard soundscapes and classical piano embellishments of Jeff Binder, the monstrous, yet precise, bass thunder of Mark Collom and the rhythmic pulse of drummer Pat Bennett. Starbolt 9 has now become New York City's foremost neo-glam band.

In the classic tradition of the Stones & U2, Starbolt 9 bring a sensational and unique live energy to the stage. They have awed audiences up and down the east coast, from The Mercury Lounge, NYC to The Masquerade in Atlanta. They were recently one of only 25 other artists chosen to participate in the All About Music festival in Nashville, TN. They have played alongside notable artists such as Lady GaGa, The Fiery Furnaces, Slinky Vagabond, We Are The Fury, and Spindrift. They have performed live for 107.7 WACC in Connecticut and 90.3FM WMSC Radio in Montclair, NJ. Starbolt 9 are also featured regularly on 93.30 FM in Argentina.
