Bio
STARCHY (a.k.a. D'Arcy Philip Gray) has been performing electro worldwide for more than 10 years. This work has taken him from Montréal to LA, New York, Amsterdam, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, and elsewhere. In previous (other) lives, was also found: at Juilliard, with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, working alongside David Tudor, or as a McGill Professor. This project combines raunchy feedback circuitry with beats in a speaker-ripping, table-core romp.
Jay Watts III from PopMontreal writes:
D'Arcy Philip Gray is "Starchy"—the music professor you wish you had, instead of the prattling Brahms-obsessive with mustard stains on his tie and halitosis on his breath that you had. Listening to his dice and slice collage works, you imagine that somewhere Thurston Moore is plotting to start a cassette label centred solely around Starchy. Check him out before he ends up in the pages of Wire.
