Biography

Member Bio:

J.D. McPherson, Lead Vocals, Guitar: J.D. McPherson cut his teeth playing guitar in such bands as F.B.I. and the Poison Okies, and filling in on
guitar with such legends as Wanda Jackson, Big Al Downing, and Jack Greene. He now brings his love of Jump, 50’s Rock & Roll, and 40’s R&B into his role as singer/songwriter/frontman of the Starkweather Boys.

Kevin Wright, Vocals, Guitar, Pedal Steel, Harmonica: Kevin Wright, former frontman of groundbreaking San Francisco rockabilly giants The Kingpins, now graces the stage with the Starkweather Boys. A keen multi -instrumentalist, Kevin can easily fall into the role of either Jimmy Bryant OR Speedy West, and also play a mean blues harp when the spirit moves him.

Johnny Carlton, Vocals, Upright Percussive Bass: Johnny Carlton has been one of Oklahoma’s premiere doghouse-style bass players for many years. His high-energy, over-the-top stage presence has been featured in such bands as F.B.I., Altamont Speedway, The Poison Okies, as well as filling in for rockabilly and country legends such as Wanda Jackson, Mack Stevens, and Jack Greene.

Billy Earl Padgett, Vocals, Drums: Billy Earl Padgett is a Tulsa legend. After years of playing in such acclaimed rock and roll bands such as the Legendary Hitch Hikers, Bill layed down the rhythm for the now-legendary Brian Parton & The Nashville Rebels. Bill now swings "the best right hand in Oklahoma" as the rockin' backbone of The Starkweather Boys.

Lyrics

The Best Of You

Written By: JD McPherson

I stole my fortune long ago,
mining color from the ground
And since indulged in finer things, its true
I've been recieved by royalty, passed every peer review

But I could never get the best of you

I've sailed the seven seas and seen
the wonders of the world
I've owned great works of art and precious jewels
but at night I toss and turn inside a cold and lonely room

For I could never get the best of you

I had a map to paradise
in the comfort of your smile
Another treasure I'd put on display
But one wrong turn and I missed my destination by a mile
The object of my search just slipped away...

I swear to you, this day
I'd trade in every bar of gold
the land and pretense i've attended to
I'd hand away the best of everything I could bestow

If I could only get the best of you

I had a map to paradise
in the comfort of your smile
Another treasure I'd put on display
But one wrong turn and I missed my destination by a mile
The object of my search just slipped away...

I'll search away the last remaining hours of my life
to find the shining light of love thats true
And sweep the darkened shadows from the corners of my mind
If I can only get the best of you

Off His Leash

Written By: JD McPherson

I'm gonna rain down hell
on the town tonight
like a pitbull off his leash

I'm gonna tear up the road
searching high and low
on every lonely street

Chorus
I'm gonna rain down hell
on that son of a gun
that took my baby from me
i got a cast iron arm,
a yen to do some harm
and a date with the hangin' tree

I'm gonna rain down hell
on the sand and stone
on the mountains, sky and trees

I'm gonna leave my mark
on every heart
that ever burned with jealousy

Chorus
I'm gonna rain down hell
on that son of a gun
that took my baby from me
I got a fist full of steel
and an iron heel
and ill will in the first degree

I'm gonna rain down hell
on the world tonight
And I always hit my mark

I demand satisfaction
for every fool
whos had to live with a broken heart

Man Without Shame

Written By: JD McPherson

mama don't let me go
you know i cant hide the pain
what will i tell my friends if we drift apart

'cause a man without shame
is a man without a broken heart

overlook this quid pro quo
and forgive me if i seem so vain
but if you leave me alone, i'll have to make a brand new start

and a man without shame
is a man without a broken heart

you said count on you to count on me
when this love affair began
but there's three kinds of guys in this world sweet mama
them who can't count and them who can

mama don't let me go
i know you can't take the blame
but my foolish pride won't stand being ripped apart

cause a man without shame
is a man without a broken heart
