StarryEYES is a band with its feet firmly grounded & a vision of greatness. Based in Los Angeles, CA. the quintet was founded by singer/songwriter/guitarist Nic Weethee. It began as a side project. But backed by the encouragement of hometown Lodi, CA. friends & supporters it became his main focus. After relocating to L.A. in 2004 in support of the project he named the band “StarryEYES”; dedicated to all of the people whom he saw there with big dreams & also in awe of the vast diversity of the city.
In 2005 he recorded the debut album “Pick up the Pieces” along with a host of talented musicians. The songs were acoustic guitar based but its rock n roll roots were clearly heard & felt. In 2008 he crafted the brilliant “She’s a Thief” concept album which catapulted him into the local spotlight. A clear departure from his acoustic past; the powerful, dynamic & catchy hooks solidified his presence as a song writer & a true musical force to be noticed.
But growing further meant expanding into a full band. So began the daunting task of building the perfect unit. And after 3 years of much trial, effort & patience, the now 5 member StarryEYES is poised for success. Let’s meet the team:
*Louie Heredia grew up in the San Fernando Valley & has been a guitarist for 10 years. Formerly of the band Dog Party, he’s known for his soaring guitar lines, nimble touch & provides backing vocals. He also doubles as a professional photographer & handles all of the still photo arrangement for the band.
*Morgan Jenkins is from L.A. & has been a guitarist for 12 years. He’s most recognized as the former front man of the popular SoCal ska band Not Distant with whom he won “Best Front Man” in the 2007 Ritchie Valens Battle of the Bands. His clean, tight sound, rock solid rhythms & great vocals make him perfect for the bands tight vocal harmonies & complex, syncopated guitar lines.
*Dave Newlove hails from Fresno, CA. & has been a bass player for 10 years. Formerly of the band Aftermarket Romance, his smooth & subliminal style provides the perfect foundation for the ensemble along with providing key backing vocals. Dave is currently pursuing a degree in film editing at CSUN & is the chief videographer for the band.
*Don Tonic was born & raised on the East Coast & has been a drummer/percussionist for 25 years. As a freelanced musician he’s performed for close to a million people worldwide for the N.F.L., Holland America Cruise Lines, numerous bands & DJs along with multiple corporate events. His steady pulse, driving rhythms & dynamic flair make him the true backbone of the ensemble. Don is also the founder & head of Sonic Entertainment which promotes an active roster of bands & DJs in Atlanta, Seattle & L.A.; with which StarryEYES is also represented by.
The band is currently performing shows all over the West Coast supporting songs off of the first two albums. Making their mark as a ferocious & technically seamless live act, they’re now incorporating an equally impressive stage show with unique lighting, smoke, bubbles, interactive video & stage costumes. They’ve expanded their group vision by collaborating on a new album together; which fuses the diverse member influences into a bold new musical direction. They soon hope to tour the country bringing their sound to the people, performing with their peers & mixing with their mentors. The band is also working on a non profit organization to host a Battle of the Bands series for high school kids, raising money for public school band programs.
