"Starry Saints"

"The resulting sound enjoys a combination of early 90s post-shoegaze influence and earlier lo-fi garage hints, while flirtatiously batting an eye at more radio-friendly horizons." ... Give this concluding song (The Long Fade) from their EP a chance to develop... lovely. - Milk Milk Lemonade Blog

"SONG OF THE DAY: STARRY SAINTS “GO”"

Here comes a Portland band that sounds like they are from the UK – STARRY SAINTS. With former members of Every Move A Picture and The High Violets in the band, they come off somewhere between The Big Pink and Kasabian. They have a debut full-length set to come out called “Serenade” and the track that first jumped out to me is this SOTD, “Go”, which brings to mind Love & Rockets “So Alive” somehow blending with The Stone Roses. All great reference points in my book, and did I tell you they are from Portland? - Future Sounds Blog

Bio

Starry Saints were born in 2009 when former band mates, Allen Davis and Clint Sargent joined forces on an innovative music project resulting in a confluence of nugaze and pop, noise and song craft.

Davis and Sargent originally played together with The High Violets. In 2002 they collaborated on The High Violets first album “44 Down”. Sargent played lead guitar and composed most of the songs, while Davis played bass guitar and produced the album. In 2003 Davis moved to San Francisco where he joined the band Every Move a Picture and became songwriter for their album “Heart=Weapon” released on V2 records in 2005. Sargent continued with The High Violets, releasing the acclaimed album “To Where You Are” in 2006.

In the spring of 2009 the duo regrouped in Portland to embark on their new music venture soon to be named Starry Saints. After completing a three song demo EP a music video of their single “Go,” produced by William Landers, was entered in a 94.7 KNRK radio-sponsored contest resulting in their first show at Portland Memorial Coliseum opening for the Killers.

By using a sort of lowfi-hifi approach Starry Saints produce music that is big without being indulgent via influences both old and new. The twin assault of Sargent’s and Davis’s guitars hovers between noise and beauty. Currently the band is working on a new full length release due out November 1, 2010.
