"In The Trenches: North Coast Music Festival REVIEW"

Given the immense amount of talent at North Coast and having seen just about every artist this summer trying their hand at trap music, it wasn’t until the final day that we were able to witness a “Certified Real Trap Shit” set provided by Chicago’s own DJ SOLO. With the success of his Traps N Tree’s compilation from Electric Forest, SOLO sparked an early dose of energy into the crowd by playing bangers like Three Loco’s We Are Farmers, the infamous Flosstradamus remix to Original Don, and Baauer’s Harlem Shake which had everyone getting B?NNED at the Dos Equis Stage. - http://thedankles.com

"Starship Academy - History's Mysteries Mini-Mix [DJ SOLO]"

After achieving total domination with his Electric Forest "Traps N Trees" set, the mix master of trap DJ SOLO is back with a brand new project. Starship ?cademy is the spaced out alter ego of Dave Abrams obsessed with the Pyramids, Stonehenge, and the lost civilization of the Mayans. Blending his cutting-edge trapstyle with his passion for ancient, inexplicable wonders, DJ SOLO yesterday released a 4-track EP, History's Mysteries, under the moniker. The debut release for LA-based E.S.P. Recordings explores the giant heads on Easter Island, the lost city of Atlantis, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. As trippy and trappy as this set is, Abrams can't help but inject his signature sense of humor with the theme from The Godfather, an assist from The Pixies, and a freestyle about hippies on lot with good bud and 10-strips. DJ SOLO will be bringing his wild stage show full of rock, rap, and reverie to The Werk Out in central Ohio with a slot at the Grassroots Dome this evening. - http://www.theuntz.com

Bio

As the creator of Starship Academy, a new musical venture, DJ SOLO launches into the future with new concepts in BASS MUSIC. Walking in the footsteps of concept producers such as DJ Shadow, Dan the Automator, and DJ Muggs, this mini concept EP focuses on the lost wisdom of the ancients, visitors from space, and our Universal connection to all things. It's all woven together in a bass and synth-heavy, trapped-out, layered up tapestry of past, present and future sounds. A psychedelic bass trip into the hidden history of the Earth! Out Now on E.S.P. Recordings: http://www.beatport.com/release/historys-mysteries-ep/970979

SOLO spent several years in Los Angeles, training at the sacred “Lost Temple” with his Sensei, DJ MUGGS of the almighty Cypress Hill / SOUL ASSASSINS crew (Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Alchemist, Mr. Cartoon). After completing his training at the Lost Temple to become an official member of the crew, working with such acts as The Wu Tang Clan (GZA, RZA, Raekwon, Killah Priest), Everlast, Maroon 5, Planet Asia, and a host of LA’s finest, he was sent off on a journey that led him back to his home town of Chicago, IL.

Having heard the call of the Dubstep frequency before leaving LA and becoming captivated by it, he entered the world of BASS music as a Punk Rock rebel and Turntablist destroying everything in his path, with a cast of Chicago’s up-and-coming Dubstep DJs such as Phaded, Kabz, Ruckus, Nameloc & Whoa-B. Eventually migrating further south to the town of Urbana, IL, he joined up with the Chalice Dubs crew to throw monthly BASS music parties and start touring the Midwest college circuit, where late-night raves and jam-band festivals were merging together into a brand new “Burning Man” style subculture. While traveling the country and communing with the supporters of this emerging culture, he studied the teachings of Lao Tzu, The Buddha Siddhartha, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, Nassim Haramein, Bruce Lee, Zecharia Sitchin, Drunvalo Melchizedek, Barbara Marciniak, and Jordan Duchnycz, and realized that out of his original Punk Rock destruction must come the creation of a new path. He made a conscious intention to use this platform not only for playing his special brand of electronic BASS-HEAVY music, but for spreading a message of change, positivity, LOVE, and evolution, supporting EDM acts such as Skrillex, Figure, Vaski, Borgore, and Die Antwoord.

As a result of his festival touring, he also did tours opening for electronic based jam-bands, Boombox and Big Gigantic, as well as produced heavy electronic remixes for Chicago locals Umphrey’s McGee and Cornmeal. He has had cameo set performances from Jaik Willis to his original song “Mile In My Shoes”, and he sang a special 2-song cameo acoustic set at Summer Camp 2012, where he performed his never before heard song “Outlaw’s Son”.

DJ SOLO and the Starship Academy will continue to teach the keys of unlocking the living library called Earth, as well as bring you the highest quality frequency transmissions from all genres of AWESOME music in every corner of the Universe, past, present, and future.
