Bio

Five siblings, a dream, conviction, and a new record in 2005…

GODERICH - Under their former name of SILENCE, these sibling rockers released a 2001 debut CD, "Saintless", that generated a major industry buzz and campus airplay. A strong performance style and spiritually-driven lyrics have elicited U2 / Coldplay references, but they are a unique entity. As kids they were infinitely inspired by friends, family and surrogate family, all nurturing those first childhood aspirations of sharing their dream and touching the hearts of people all around the world. Blake was a source of encouragement as well as a visionary and surrogate grandfather to the family but the band's diverse life experiences and unique upbringing also helped define the state these five refer to as 'blake'. This is a band loud but at peace; the state of mind comforts as well as challenges.

Having just released a brand new self-produced 2-song E-CD and with the follow-up full-length due out in 2004, state of blake is passionate about the new musical direction and their more raw, straight ahead rock sound. It may reflect a maturity of consciousness within the band and the conflict of paradox in current society. Two songs off the current single - 'Came So Close' and 'Run With Scissors' - exemplify the possibility and power of choices, as an individual and as a nation. Fans will be able to request songs at campus radio in the new year and commercial rock stations nationally in June.

Major highlights for the band since 2001 include licensing the title track from “Saintless” for the U.S. feature film 'Almost Time' (featured in both the trailer & the movie), performing on CTV's Canada AM, having a TV show in Italy use 3 of the band's songs without permission, showcasing at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, performing at the Canada Summer Games, being named Molson Canadian's online Featured Band two months in a row, being voted as one of the top 3 bands of 2001 by K106 FM's listening audience, and winning an FM96's Battle of the New Rock on-air contest with 81% of call-in votes.

“The five of us who are state of blake all have the same intense passion and desire surging through us. It is like a knowing, an undeniable sense of destiny, and because of this we have never considered doing anything but playing our music. On stage is where we feel most like we are at home and in that space we find ourselves. Because of this, we can then give of ourselves in such a way that inspires hope, optimism and action in others.”
