Bio
An alt-rock-based energetic trio with a soft side for melody and groove. With music ranging from fast-paced, bombastic yet intelligent rock, to acoustic melody driven flights, State of the Art was formed in 2003 by its two original members, guitarist/vocalist Adam Campbell, and drummer Jordan Oakie. State of the Art played their first show (2004) at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS to an enthusiastic audience with bassist Mike Vaughan, who had recorded with SOTA on their demo (2004) and was in collaboration with the band up until his pursuit of higher education took him to the west coast of Canada. The band then enlisted former Plump and E.G.U. bassist Oliver Cluett, polishing off their sonic arsenal. The band has since played around the local Halifax, NS music scene, and taken part in the East Coast Music Awards festival, receiving positive and encouraging feedback along the way, and are currently working on recording their first EP. SOTA's sound has been compared to a blend of bands including The Mars Volta, Incubus, King Crimson, Steely Dan, among others. The band's influences also include Phish, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Radiohead.
