"Static March CD Release Party & Exclusive Interview!"

Last night, friends, family, and fans, all gathered at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale to celebrate the debut release of Static March’s new EP “All At Once”. Opening for the boys was another local solo acoustic artist, Bubba Dak, who surprisingly was more of a freestyle hip hop artist. Along with his guest and fellow freestyler, Eric (or Erik), these two brought together robotic sounds conducted from the guy in the corner armed with a laptop, with freestyle rapping similar to the sound of Mos Def. They also worked the audience and got a lot of crowd participation, and even performed a Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel” by request. Bubba Dak, whose music was supposedly inspired by times he was on shrooms, as he said last night, came donned in sunglasses (while performing indoors) so he could have been high, which just makes for better free styling. This impressive duo did a great job opening the show and helped hype up the crowd in anticipation for Static March.

This young and talented band formed late last year, after splitting up from their previous quartet “Five High” and has already produced their first release in less than a year. Despite the loss of their 4th band mate Kevin, this energetic trio did not disappoint the crowd last night. People of all ages gathered last night in support of this local band based out of Phoenix. Band mates Josh and James Strmic (brothers who were born in Chicago, but raised in Phoenix), along with their long time friend Nick Jensen (born and raised in Phoenix) bring together their talents to create a unique indie sound.

This all age show brought out many young fans (and some cougars), who have most likely been following these guys since their 2007 performance at Tempe Music Festival (as Five High) opening up for The Fray and Yellowcard. This past May, Nick (guitar/keys/vocals), James (bass/acoustic guitar), and Josh (drums/keys) performed a free live show at Tempe Marketplace to promote several songs that were to be released on this new album. Despite this being one of the first times these guys have performed together since forming Static March, last night, they dominated the stage, and carried out their stage presence as if they have done it 100 times before. Performing new songs such as “Better Off” and “Can’t Hide” off of their new EP, and an excellent rendition of the Beatles cover “Come Together”, this Muse and Kings of Leon inspired trio definitely brought their energy along with them and dispensed it out to the crowds cheering below.

Even after the show, these guys went right to work at the merchandise tables. Reaping their well-deserved rewards, they sold loads of copies of their CD’s, and fans were graciously thanked with free limited edition posters and stickers, along with band member’s autographs as a token of their appreciation. In addition to that, they stayed behind for an exclusive interview, despite it being past youngest member James’ “curfew”. (Martini Ranch’s policy doesn’t allow anyone under 21 to stay past 10pm. Sorry kids.)

Thanks for taking the time out to do this interview. You guys had a great show tonight!

Nick: Thanks for having us and helping us promote our music!

So your band formed late last year, how long did it take to make the new album and how did you get it done so fast?

Nick: Some of the music, we had been previously working on
Josh: We wanted to get it produced as fast as possible to get it out to the fans

Where do you get the inspiration for writing your own music and lyrics?

Josh: Nick writes most of the lyrics
Nick: We just start jamming and I start adding lyrics. Usually it just comes to me, from personal experiences that have happened to me or to others around me.

How did you come up with the new name of your band, and the title of your album?

Josh: We wrote random words (about 60) that we thought sounded cool, and ended up picking Static March
Nick: We also really liked the word March. It’s almost like an oxymoron. Static to us represented something still, or stagnant, like our old band which didn’t seem to be going anywhere
James: And march was more like us moving forward. For the title of our album, we just went and looked at a bunch of CDs and chose names of songs that sounded cool. We ended up going with a song on The Fray’s album.

You performed with The Fray in Tempe before right?

Nick: Yeah, so it was kind of cool to choose a song from a band we’ve previously worked with and really respect

What is the best concert you guys have been to?

Nick: People are probably going to laugh at this

What is it, NSync or something?

Nick: No (laughs), it’s Coldplay.
Josh: Yeah, we really respect them as artists and they sound great live. I really liked Slipknot
James: Muse was probably my favorite

Who are your biggest influences?

Nick: Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys. Just kidding, probably Kings of Leon and John Mayer

That’s who it was that you sounded like, John Mayer. I couldn’t peg it during your show

James: Ha, you just made his night! He practices in front of the mirror! I’d probably say mine are Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus
Josh: Tool and Dave Matthews

What would be the dream venue for you guys to play at?

James and Josh: Chicago House of Blues
Josh: Madison Square Garden
James: Central Park

Is there anything else you guys want to add?

All: We just really want to thank all of our friends and family, fans old and new for all of their support.

In case you missed the show, and would like to check out their songs or follow this band, head on over to their MySpace page for 3 new tracks and to be added to their mailing list. If you'd like to purchase their CD, you could probably pop them an email.

Hope to see these friendly faces again in the future, maybe headlining at Cricket Pavilion someday. Good luck guys! - Thao Trinh (Examiner.com)

Static March is a three-piece Alternative/Indie Rock band formed in September 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. Their sound and style have been compared to bands such as Incubus, Muse, Death Cab for Cutie and Kings of Leon. The Strmic Brothers make up the rock solid rhythm section with Josh on drums and James on bass and long-time friend Nick Jensen fronts the group with his powerful vocals and raw guitar playing.

The current line-up of Static March is the remaining three members of the former band Five High. As Five High, they had the privilege of opening up for The Fray at the 2007 Tempe Music Festival where other bands such as O.A.R., Yellow Card, Cowboy Mouth and Everclear performed. Also as Five High, they performed and headlined at many major venues around the Southwest. Static March looks forward to going above and beyond these successes and is very excited to see what the future has in store.
