"Statues - AUX."

"...Short and punchy, Ted Leo-esque, but done all Canadian. Good lyrics and hooks of note."
- Punk Planet

"Statues - AUX."

“The Songs on their new record, Aux. are sharp focused explosions of garage pop…the choppy urgency of punk legends The Clash and The Jam…” - – Jim Moodie, Exile in Rockville

"Statues - AUX."

“With a mandate of simply hanging out and making music, this band of rockers from Sudbury is on the road to complete success! While fulfilling this mandate, they have created a great album. We recommend.” - newmusiccanada.com

STATUES - ‘AUX’ CD
Now, this doesn’t look or sound like a typical Pelado release. It’s... what’s the right word... sophisticated. That’s it... it’s more sophisticated than the usual snotty, ’77 flavoured Pelado punk rock that we love so much but that’s not to say this isn’t good too. It’s got a definite CLASH and JAM feel to it but mixed with a really melodic sound like the NEWTOWN NEUROTICS and the LIBRARIANS. The vocals even sound like Paul Weller and it also reminds me of the early 80s English melodic sound. Maybe it’s because these STATUES are Canadian that they take a different and more original approach. It’s quite arty too, especially the vague band name, imagery and album title which again reminds me of the English 80s style. It’s cool that it’s different but still fits in with Pelado. It’s good different not out-of-place different and when a label expands it’s sound that’s a great thing. I’m sure I will have some snotty punk rock shit played at my funeral because that’s the sound I live for and will still listen to when I’m an old bastard pissing and shitting myself but I really enjoyed this and it’s necessary to listen to some different sounds every now and then and this was a great change for me.

Bio

Statues are from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. They've been together a little over 2 years but have all previously played in Sudbury's long standing garage/mod/punk band, The Havocs.

After recording and releasing a full length DIY effort (before even playing a show!), they were approached by Pelado Records who offered to re-issue the recording with extra songs and fancy new artwork and full international distro. Since then they have been receiving favorable reviews in Punk Planet, Razor Cake, The Big Takeover, MRR,etc. They have continued to write and record for at least 2 more upcoming releases.

In late October 2005, Punknews.org, one of the bigger internet music services/sites added "The Shipping News" from the Statues Are Go! EP as MP3 of the week.

2006 will see the release of Statues' new full length on Pelado Records and an Extensive Eastern Canada/US Tour.
