"Stealing Venus - Running Blind and Rockin like Mad"

I clearly remember the day I first heard Stealing Venus. I was doing my weekly listening of the new artists that come onto IAC. That was one of those weeks when I heard a number of fine new acts but it still seemed to be going slow. Then I came upon this song 'Superhero' and the song sort of starts with this unusual intro and suddenly, whoa, this charismatic, no holds barred voice came out of the speakers to basically make my night. I listened over and over again, the song has so many catchy things going on in it that.. well I just listened again and still love it, even more than I did that first night.. Stealing Venus has so much rock energy they could literally lift up the whole indie scene by the power of that sound. First and foremost, it must be said that they are great rock songwriters. They followed up 'Superhero' by bringing 'Ammunition' and 'Am I Doing Fine?' to IAC and both songs reached #1 on the KIAC Big 50, are 2 of the greatest songs I've heard in the indie realm in my lifetime. The band's music has that intangible factor, the time-released quality that makes them grow and grow on you, delivering the kind of rock bliss that could, if the mainstream wasn't so lost at the present time, represent a whole era. Anyway the song 'All About Us' is currently on the rise in the KIAC Big 50 and the fans of Stealing Venus, myself included, can't wait for more great songs. - Independent Artists Company.com

Bio

The foundation of this young alternative rock union are 4 members with distinctively different musical backgrounds who wanted to create an original sound that was rebellious and inspiring. Lead vocalist - Merritt Hicks, guitarist - Derek Reynolds, bassist - Mia Heldt and drummer - Joe K. have established the forward sound of Stealing Venus.

"I love how I can trust this whole band will take the lyrics and ideas brought to the table and make them into a song that will give me the chills," Heldt explains. "It isn't very often you find that magic combination."

Augmenting this already rare and original take on rock are Joe K. on drums (with Kevin Martin, former Candelbox frontman lending his drum skills on the bands first EP) and Derek Reynolds on guitar. Heart pounding drum grooves paired with hot guitar licks and melodic hooks give Stealing Venus 'their sound'.

Stealing Venus' dynamic friendship and energy are apparent.

After seeing Stealing Venus play an affecting show at the Viper Room, producer and LiVE guitarist Chad Taylor, invited the band to record at his studio in Lancaster, PA. One week after completing their first EP entitled "Sugar High," Stealing Venus made an appearance at the South by Southwest Music Festival in March of 2005. While in Austin, the bands song "Ammunition" had its debut on Austin's Rock Station KLBJ.

Stealing Venus is currently back home in Hollywood, CA. promoting their EP, "Sugar High." Their themes state the unspoken from "Saturday morning life is never boring" to "If I'm not special then lie to me."

Ceaselessly creating, Stealing Venus are currently writing and performing. Their songs possess striking attitude, fiery emotion and clever metaphors. Their presence on stage is energetic and entertaining. Merritt's strong vocal performance is reminiscent of the female powerhouses of the 80's. They continue to be influenced and expand on concepts by Blondie, Pixies, David Bowie, The Clash, The Pretenders, Sonic Youth and many others.
