"Local Musicians To Release Album"

HUNTSVILLE — A musical duo from North Alabama, Bo Steele and Ben Rubino, will release their debut album in March of 2011. The duo found fame and interest from record companies, eventually inking a deal with indie label White Strings Records, after a video of Steele singing "Victory in Jesus" in the Huntsville Hospital waiting room went viral.

The video clip was featured on WHNT News 19 This Morning and prompted an enthusiastic reaction from viewers, eager to learn more about the talented musician. Shortly after, Steele and guitarist Ben Rubino performed in the WHNT News 19 studios during an interview about their meteoric rise. Steele, originally from Double Springs, Alabama, said during the interview it was quite an adjustment to go from struggling musician to "local celebrity."

"I'm really praying for something real big to happen so our dreams can come true, and we can do what we've been wanting to do for a while," said Steele.

That "real big" event has happened, and now the duo's debut album will be released on March 15th. There will also be a CD release show at WorkPlay Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama on March 4th. A spokesperson with White Strings Records tells WHNT News 19 fans will be able to purchase the new "Bo Steele & Ben Rubino" album at the event as well as merchandise. The musicians will also hold a meet and greet post-performance to chat with friends and fans.

During the initial viral frenzy, many commented on Facebook and YouTube they would like to see Steele do a gospel album. His record company confirms a gospel album will likely be on the table in the future, but the first CD will have more of a country-rock flavor. A description on Steele & Rubino's new Facebook Page describes the team this way, "Best friends Bo Steele and Ben Rubino bring unrelenting talent to this modern day music industry. Bo Steele's voice of emotion resurrects that of the late Johnny Cash with a grain of Nickelback and a dash of Daughtry. Ben Rubino's polished and blue-blooded guitar playing takes you up the 'Stairway to Heaven.'"

The original YouTube clip from Huntsville Hospital that sparked so much interest happened by chance. Steele was visiting his grandmother in Huntsville Hospital after she suffered a stroke. While in the waiting room, Steele's father announced Bo's talent for singing. Hospital worker Lakesha Westmoreland asked Bo to sing for them, and Lakesha asked if she could record the performance. After soulful renditions of the old hymnal "Victory in Jesus" and "I'll Fly Away", Lakesha asked permission to post the video to her Facebook page; and the rest, as they say, is history.

"Alabama Singer Bo Steele Signs Record Deal"

HUNTSVILLE, AL — Bo Steele, the north-Alabama native who became a web sensation, has signed a contract with Florida record company White Strings Records.

Steele and guitarist Ben Rubino talked with WHNT News 19 and gave a special in-studio performance last month after a clip of Bo singing in Huntsville Hospital was featured on WHNT News 19 This Morning. The YouTube clip of Bo singing "Victory in Jesus" in the hospital went on to become a viral hit as fans from across the country praised his vocal skills.

Steele's manager said the musicians will head to Florida on Jan. 3 to begin cutting a CD. The first album will be country-rock with a spiritual flavor. A gospel CD, which many fans have been clamoring for, is in the works but will likely be third or even fourth on the to-do list.

Steele's manager noted the song "Destiny" will likely be included on the first CD.

Interest in Steele and Rubino's musical talents spiked after Bo's hospital-singing clip gathered so much attention on the web. The pair went up to Detroit to cut a demo and sang in some small venues. Tammy Putnam, Steele's mother said the trip was a success and shortly after on Dec. 16, Steele and company signed a record contract in Birmingham.

Putnam said her son is also planning a tour in March. Steele and Rubino also now have an official Facebook page for fans to keep track of their budding careers.

"Local Singer Finds Internet Stardom"

HUNTSVILLE, AL — You may not recognize 19-year-old Double Springs singer, Bo Steele, but after an impromptu Huntsville Hospital waiting room performance was posted to Facebook, he has become quite popular. Steele's videos have garnered hundreds of comments and friend requests on his Facebook page. Now, the teen is adjusting to his new status as a "local celebrity."

Bo Steele and his friend Ben Rubino joined us in the WHNT NEWS 19 studios to discuss the social media explosion. The two have been playing together for years under the name 'Black Tomorrow', but after a simple Facebook post, this duo's musical future is looking much brighter.

It all started while Steele was visiting his grandmother in Huntsville Hospital after she suffered a stroke.

"The next thing I know, they pull me into the lobby and everybody is telling me to sing all these songs," said Bo, "so I just sang gospel hymns because that was the easiest thing I could think of."

It only took a couple of days for Bo's vocal stylings to start a social media frenzy.

"I got home and like three days past, and I had almost 2,000 friends already on my Facebook and 10,000 views on YouTube," scoffed Steele, "and it went crazy after that."

Steele says the positive response has been both humbling and overwhelming.

"I get like 800 messages, and I want to read all of them and I want to reply to them, but you can't; it's so hard... so many people," says Bo.

Many Facebook and YouTube comments from Bo's fans say his music inspires them. Others urge Steele and his buddy Ben Rubino to take it to the next level.

"I'm really praying for something real big to happen so our dreams can come true, and we can do what we've been wanting to do for a while," said Steele.

For Bo and Ben, Internet stardom just might be the springboard they've been hoping for.

"I want to change the world," said Steele, "I mean, music is real, everybody connects with music. If it wasn't for music and rhythm, we wouldn't be able to walk. It goes into everything you do, and I think its powerful enough to fix the problems in this world. That's what I want to do with it."

Many social media comments suggest that Steele should stick with gospel, but he says music is his life, and he doesn't want to limit himself to one genre. He says he'll sing anything and everything.

Bio

With their ‘almost’ blood-brother bond, best friends Bo Steele and Ben Rubino bring unrelenting talent to this modern day music industry. Bo Steele’s voice of emotion resurrects that of the late Johnny Cash with a grain of Nickelback and a dash of Daughtry. Ben Rubino’s polished and blue-blooded guitar playing takes you up the ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ March 2011 will see their debut album release from indie label White Strings Records. Their songs come from a personal walk of life, no prefabrication needed, that naturally reach into the very depths of how we define ourselves. If the songs aren’t their own, then there is no need in going on.
