Three is the magic number.

After various lineups, the Pittsburgh/ New Castle area band Steel Hollow found this to be true.

In 2006, brothers John and Mike Sullivan were on a quest for musicians.

When drummer Joe DeThomaso answered their ad at Trader Horn, Steel Hollow was born.

“We decided on the name because we are originally from Pittsburgh, the steel city, and Joe lives on Hollow Road,” said John Sullivan, who plays bass.

The band comprises an equal mix of the members’ influences. They consider their music to be hard rock with a southern rock twist — DeThomaso adds a little metal to the mix.

Their style is geared toward pleasing crowds of all ages with a versatility of classic rock and alternative covers, mixed in with a few hard-hitting originals.

The three share a love of music and dedication to hard work. Each works a full-time job, but they manage to rehearse together three hours a day.

“We know it takes hard work to get something,” lead singer and guitarist Mike Sullivan said.

Their dedication and tireless practice has landed them a spot in the battle of the bands on Feb. 14 at the Shadow Lounge in Pittsburgh

Bio

Deep in the heart of the Steel City, Steel Hollow was born. If you listen hard throughout the rivers you can hear the sound of heavy guitars and melodic vocals echoing over the water. Formed in March of 2006 Steel Hollow has worked hard to build up their name and has become one of the most popular acts in the tri-state area. Steel Hollow is gaining press and nationwide popularity with the release of their second studio EP Quiet Desperation (to be released November 2009). Recorded at Soundscape Studios with renowned sound engineer Doug Kasper and produced by Las Vegas producer Terry Patterson. Southern Rock, Hard Rock, Grunge Rock, Introspective, Progressive, Dark, Intense and Melodious are all words that could be used to sum up Steel Hollow. It is music that is respected by audiences of all ages, which has become Steel Hollow’s trademark. There is no mistaking how far Steel Hollow has come in four years as a band, evolving from a local club band to a national act with music that stands up against anything out there.

From the beginning Steel Hollow had a mission to create their own sound, not to repeat the popular. In doing this they have brought hard rock to a new level. Steel Hollow has an energy derived of a lifetime of back breaking work and love of music; you can hear this in each hard hitting riff of their riveting songs.
