The best kept secret in music

"Sparks of brillaince at concert for pan legend"

Sparks of brilliance flew from the double-tenor pan of jazz musician Clyde "lightning" George, as he showed his star power and lit up the Mas Camp Entertainment Centre. Backed by an all-star band that included ace guitarist Tony Voisin and keyboardist Allan Oxley, George turned in a spirited display, all in the name of his mentor and creator of the very pan he played, legendary tuner Bertie Marshall. ........ - Guardian

Clyde ‘Lightning’ George’s trio, Steelin’ Jazz, emerged in 1990 from the Chicago jazz scene. They have performed at festivals throughout the USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Steelin’ Jazz has recorded 4 cds and Lightning is featured in 3 films. Presenting a variety of musical styles including calypso, latin, pop, reggae, jazz and originals, they deliver classic, tasteful, professional, danceable or show music in a pleasing, upbeat always fun style. With Lightning on his double tenor steelpans, Brian O’Hern on his keyboard and Aras Biskis on the drums your feet will be tapping and your heart will be full.

Clyde 'Lightning' George is known as the steelpan king of straight ahead jazz. He is the pan master at improvisation on jazz standards. ‘Lightining’ grew up in Laventille, Trinidad, and at the same time as the pan (steeldrum). His high caliber of musicianship, vast repertoire and natural rhythm solidify his passion for jazz with a Caribbean flare. He is one a few pan players using 3 or 4 sticks when performing. This makes for a piano-like sound with chords and beautiful harmonies that delight audiences of all ages. Along with his wife, Cathy, Lightning presents seminars and School Assemblies on the history, creation and ongoing development of the steelpan.
