"Connecticut bands keep patrons happy"

Learning other artists' songs may sound simple compared to the laborious process of original songwriting, but it's no easy task. Bands must familiarize themselves with an extensive repertoire and determine a set list with sound structure.
The last thing any cover band wants, said Dylan Teed, drummer of funk band Steep Grade, is an audience that "sits at the door wondering if they should pay the $5 to get in.

Bio

Funk/rock band Steep Grade, was formed in 2003 by twin brothers Damien (vocals and rhythm guitar) and Dylan Teed (drums), Pat McCarthy (bass), and Rob Maresca (lead guitar). Like any other band, they paid their dues playing at small local venues with even smaller crowds, and after 3 years of performing, writing and building a strong fan base, the band released their first album, “Sucker Punch” in 2006. The dynamic and versatile album was recorded and engineered by Grammy Nominated Producer Anthony "Rocky" Gallo (John Legend, Gavin Degraw) in New York City. They’re song “Soul” received an honorable mention in the top 500 songs of Billboard’s songwriting competition in 2007.

Shortly after the release, the band welcomed John Britto (saxophone). With a strong new element in the group, Steep Grade was able to start perfecting their sound. They’re explosive performances continued to increase their fan base and truly blow away venue and club owners as an act unlike any other, playing their catchy original tunes and classic funk and rock covers as you’ve never heard them before. As the band began to perform in the tri state area as well as Hartford, Connecticut, Boston Massachusetts and their home in Fairfield County, more venues began to take notice and their online support skyrocketed.

Beginning to play larger venues, Steep Grade shared the stage with such notable acts as Toots and the Maytals, Cyril Neville, The Bomb Squad, and The John Hickey Band (including members of the Parliament Funkadelic). More recently, the band has added Brian Borrelli (trombone) to the group as they record their sophomore album with longtime friend Anthony “Rocky” Gallo. Now a six piece, the group anxiously awaits the opportunity to share their new sound. Their new record is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2010.
