Bio

Steer was formed by brothers Craig and Warren Steer in 2002. Initally an acoustic act, the band enjoyed regional success in Yorkshire, Uk, working the local live circuit and supporting early manifestations of The Kaiser Chiefs and 10,000 Things, the band that launched the career of actor Sam Riley. They quickly became a favourite act of BBC 's Alan Raw and have appeared on many BBC Introducing and Raw Talent sessions, including opening for Florence and the Machine in 2009.
Since their early days Steer has branched out from their Jeff-Buckley-meets-Beach Boys inspired first album A Song for Gil. A typical recent set will mix the tenderness and sublimity of harmony-based ballads with a harder rock edge. They have self-produced four albums to date, taking influences from Radiohead, Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters, yet remaining focussed on soaring melodies and a breadth of sound in the arrangement and that doesn't normally come from a four-piece outfit.
In 2007 Steer were signed to UK independent label Purple Worm Records and launched three albums - A Song for Gil, Loved and Lost and No Longer through Believe Digital Distribution onto the major download sites.
To sum Steer up and describe what sets them apart, you would have to focus on their sound. Live sets switch between dynamic highs, raucous guitar-driven rock-outs and sweet, fragile piano ballads. This is always underpinned by stunning vocal harmonies and a real sense of cohesion in the band. Steer are ready for big things!
