This night started off in a frenzy with local artist Steevan Mars ripping into an acoustic set of his music which had the crowd pumped. Steevan plays a blend of Indie/Rock styled music and has a great sense of stage presence behind the mic. With a genuinely smooth vocal range, meaningful lyrics and catchy guitar riffs - Steevan showed why he has been a leader in the local music scene for more than a decade. IF NOT NOW…WHEN?
Singer/songwriter/guitarist, STEEVAN MARS writes songs that are as sad as they are catchy - melody driven pop songs with classic rock undertones and a modern edge. If The Eagles hung out with Death Cab for Cutie and Neil Young wrote songs with U2, it may sound like Steevan Mars….maybe not. Mars’ musical style is truly his own drawing on influences across the rock map from 60’s British invasion to 70’s LA rock to 80’s/90’s Alternative.
Steevan was formerly the lead singer with studio-alternative/pop band, Joyseed, where he sharpened his songwriting skills, showing early on that he had a strong sense of melody and chord progression -without taking a single music class and only a few guitar lessons. Joyseed recorded more than 20 songs - most of which were Mars’ originals. Always one to write about matters of the heart - Steevan’s lyrics are personal and seem come from the core of his soul, causing one to ponder - is he singing about me? This latest collection of songs (on the new EP, "IF Not Now...When?") such as, Long Time and Fall Away, are no different -they really have that feeling that he is in tune with the everyday emotions that go with love and loss. If Not Now…When? refers to the long, arduous journey of an artist trying to find a way to fit into this world. Cramming in full day recording sessions at PalisadeStudios in Weehawken while working 50 hour work weeks, the new songs started to take shape, thanks to Producer, Scott Kammerer back in December 2005 - after 6 months, the EP was finished and in the Spring 2006, Steevan began an acoustic tour of the Tri-State area, slowly promoting the record and picking up fans along the way. In the spirit of Springsteen or Bon Jovi, this Hoboken, New Jersey-based singer-songwriter is a dynamic performer who connects with his fans. And let’s not forget the songs - just a bunch of great songs - and more to come. But for now, listen to the record….

- Long Time wins honorable mention in the NYC Songwriters Circle song contest. Steevan will be a featured artist the NYC Songwriters Circle's March event in 2007.
- mvyradio.com is currently featuring the track, “Long Time” on their local café series which draws thousands of listeners weekly.
NJ Songwriters in the Round has selected Steevan as featured artist for an event on January 16, 2007 at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ.
NYC Songwriters Circle has selected Steevan as a featured artist for upcoming events at the Bitter End, NYC in March, 07.
GRock Radio (106.3 FM) chose STEEVAN MARS as one of 5 finalists (out of 72 band!) in their Underground Live Unsigned Artist Contest. Steevan performed solo acoustic with the other finalists at this years TomsRiverFest on Sunday July 30, 2006.
