It seems like every day it gets a little harder not to be cynical. Every time a demand for justice is met with a demand for civility, you add another little piece of steel to that cynical armor. So with so much at stake and so much in a constant state of collapse, we need all the help we can get to keep up the good fight. Steff Reed’s music has always been a fountain of positivity when you need it. The songwriter, producer, and music educator has spent his career repping the “Power of Love,” so of course his newest video brings a little bit of that light into even the most cynical souls.

The infectious indie rock melody is intercut with images of friends and neighbors dancing and singing along while Steff travels NYC wth his matte black guitar. There’s a force of joy underpinning the whole thing, from the old school graphics that pepper the frame to the unself-conscious dancing that short circuits the part of your brain that’s been corroded by cynicism. I don’t know about you all, but I definitely needed this energy in my life today.

He's seen success as a songwriter for Jhené Aiko and Trey Songz and now Steff Reed is looking at the same in his solo career with his new single, "Power of Love." The song (and the accompanying music video), off his newly released project, The Power of Love Experience, embodies the message that Reed is fighting hard to get out into the world.

As an activist-musician passionate about social justice, Reed hopes to unite communities throughout the world with the power of love. The lyrics and video for this lead single are soaked in this aura. In the clip directed by Calvin "Camera Cal" Jenkins, Reed gallivants through Santiago, Chile, and New York City, singing about how "hope and love can conquer anything." During his journey, he manages to get groups of people in the video to spread that mantra by forming their hands into the shape of a heart and sing along with him.

Award-winning songwriter, producer, and artist Steff Reed will release his soulful and timely album, The Power of Love Experience, on July 6. In our conversation with Steff Reed three years ago, we discussed his activism, collaborations with artists such as Trey Songz, Raekwon, and Jhené Aiko, and his cathartic debut EP, #TheIntervention. AXS: What has your musical evolution been since "#TheIntervention" EP?

STEFF REED: Since releasing my debut EP, #TheIntervention, so much has changed. I taught myself how to play the guitar and bass by ear. This was a major breakthrough for me and it's allowed me to be much more self-reliant and cost-efficient in the studio, and also in a live setting. The guitar is an extremely convenient instrument to travel with, and although the piano is my first instrument, the guitar is much better suited for the type of music that I create than the piano is. Also, I'm touring and playing festivals regularly now. This is a professional breakthrough that has really been inspiring. I feel like my music and artistry overall fits perfectly within the festival community. Ultra Peace & Love vibes and positive energy. - AXS
