"The Inside Connection Kicks off the Summer"

However, the evening truly belonged to progmetal
band S.T.E.M. (www.myspace.com/stemny),
who brought down the largest and most enthusiastic
following of either evening, and who consequently
qualify to play at a larger Spotlight Premium
Showcase at a later date. S.T.E.M.’s influences can
be traced to such prog-rock luminaries as Tool,
Dream Theater and even King Crimson, but in their
hands the result is a unique blend of aggressive yet
melodic tunes, with a high level of musicianship evident
from every corner of the stage. Their confidence
and musicianship are a lethal combination, and great
things are undoubtedly in store for them. This is definitely
a band to watch out for.

"Vintage Lounge RockFest #3"

The last band I caught was S.T.E.M., a really interesting hard rock band that melded metal and progressive rock with some middle eastern riffs to create something very original and heavy. They have a pretty huge following which stuck around even for the late hour they went on. At times they kind of reminded me of Tool with some of the bass lines, especially on "Interlude". These guys are powerful stuff, keep an eye out for them.

- Mike Ferrari - Aural Fix

Bio

S.T.E.M. (Space, Time, Energy and Mass) is a Progressive/Hard Rock band hailing from Long Island, NY. Paying homage to the influential greats whom defined Progressive Rock, S.T.E.M. manages to incorporate unconventional time signatures with heart pounding rhythms and mind accelerating lyrics yielding prolific thought by composition. By fluidly mixing elements of Mediterranean Soul, Funk and purist American metal, S.T.E.M. convincingly redefines the rock experience with the unique flavor of their arrangements and colorful harmonic progressions. Assembled in August 2006, S.T.E.M. is comprised of former members of "Project plan b", vocalist/percussion Ryan Safarian, guitarist Greg Bolomey and "Bunson Large" bassist Jeff Romano who then welcomed drummer Tony Consalvo completing the progressive rock quartet. S.T.E.M.'s influences are respectfully drawn from the undeniable and transcendentalist talents of pioneers like Dream Theater, Tool, Primus, Rush, Opeth, Gruvis Malt, and Pantera.
