"Stencil H sounds like the Smiths played by ZZ Top" according to Le Parisien newspaper.
Stencil H likes to define its sound as Indie Road Music -- the sound track to road trips along the Pan American Highway, the Silk Road or Route 66. Its two main songwriters, Do & Holyweah, have created several dozen songs, in English & in French. Their songs tell stories melding drama, irony and humor, with unique views on personal situations or political issues.
The band evolved from a one-person studio project into a full-fledged 4-piece band, made-up of a rock-solid rhythm section and dual front-men vocalist/guitarists. The band's first gigs were in June 2011, after five rehearsals. The fact that audiences sang along to songs they'd never heard before gave the band confidence.
A performing hiatus of several months followed, as the band spent that time fine-tuning its songs, whilst indulging in a 5-month search for a full-time drummer capable of melding the power of John Bonham with the finesse of Freddie Gruber. When the band emerged again, with new drummer Pierre, audiences not only sang, but danced, to songs they'd never heard before.
Stencil H is a multi-cultural band, with Anglo-Canadian-French roots. Its members are all gainfully employed, in careers spanning nursing and management consultancy. One of its members is a poster child for the Parkinson's research community. Stencil H is currently based in the countryside south of Paris, but likes to travel for gigs.
The band's influences range from Ange, through Elvis Costello and pj harvey to Zeppelin.
