Bio

Stepchain was formed by school-mates; Chris Midkiff ,Matt Daggett, and Terry Allen in 2003. Pulling from three very different tastes in music, the boys started creating songs well-beyond their years. Playing only couple shows under a few other monikers prior too ’03, Stepchain gained local recognition around Mid-Michigan with their self-released album “Sway,” recorded by Chris’ dad, John Midkiff. Being only juniors in high-school upon its release though, shows were kept to a minimum.

In 2007, Stepchain added second guitarist, Brent Burak. They also teamed-up with producer Brian Beeler (Cinematic Sunrise, Chiodos, The Swellers) to record their 19 track 72 minute album, “Anthems for Midnight.” Filled with catchy chorus’ and huge emotion, the album takes listeners on a journey through in your face rock power-houses like the first single, “Somebody’s Gotta Do it,” to soulful songs like, “Release,” to metal riffs and breakdowns like, “How ‘Bout them Dragons?” Following the album’s release the band played tirelessly throughout the Midwest, then setting out on multiple tours of the eastern seaboard. Gaining more airtime on college radio stations and “homegrown” radio exposure, Stepchain was on the right track musically, but internally falling apart.

Chris Midkiff packed-up and moved south to Savannah, Georgia, with Daggett following suit a couple months later. Being long-time writing partners, the two wrote and recorded an unnamed acoustic EP. Only releasing stragglers off of the album, periodically.

Spring 2011: Stepchain, marked a return to existence playing songs off of their new upcoming album at an intimate show in Savannah, Georgia; featuring new members: Brian Wooden on guitar, and Jeff Bolling on bass. With new life breathed into the band and a new place to call home, Stepchain, through their struggles, still has plenty more fight left in them.
