"One to Watch: Stephanie Berlanga"

Her music has been compared to acoustic guitarist and singer Colbie Caillat and the alternative rock band Paramore. But in truth, Stephanie Berlanga has made a name for herself and her “pop-acoustic-indie” music.

The 20-year-old’s natural talent for singing, songwriting and strumming the guitar has put her at the forefront among up-and-coming musicians in the Emerald Coast. She’s performed in Seaside, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and Orlando. You might catch her playing at Graffiti and the Funky Blues Shack in Destin on open mic nights.

When she was just 7 years old, Berlanga’s father bought her a guitar and taught her how to read music. By her early teens, she began writing her own music. Ever since, Berlanga has been cranking out the tunes. Over the years, she’s learned other instruments such as the piano and the drums, but her true talent shines through when she’s behind the guitar singing her own songs.

“I have at least an album’s worth of completed songs, and about a million more unfinished ones,” she says.

Berlanga hopes to get an internship with a recording studio after graduating with a music business degree from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla., and eventually go on tour throughout the country. For now, she’s “doing the whole college thing” and writing music.

“Besides learning the tricks of the trade for the music industry, I really want to play a lot of gigs and, most of all, record my first album,” she says. “I’m very excited about everything that’s happening right now in my life.” — Derek Bailey - Rowland

Bio

Stephanie Berlanga is an accomplished singer, songwriter, and guitarist residing in Atlanta, GA.  Uniting genres of pop, singer-songwriter, and folk, Stephanie's soulful vocals, melodic guitar playing, and honest lyrics both intrigue and captivate listeners of all genres.

The native Floridian has continued to propel herself forward since age 7, when her father taught her some simple guitar chords. After years of writing & playing within the realms of her bedroom walls, she was encouraged by a high school classmate to start performing at local eateries and events. Not long after, Stephanie was recognized as one of Florida's Emerald Coast Magazine's "One to Watch".

In college, she posted acoustic covers to YouTube and performed weekly on YouNow, a live-streaming site. Through hard work and patience, Stephanie has gained a loyal following and has formed a relationship with her ever-growing fanbase, who connect with both her & her music. In 2011, she graduated from Full Sail University as Valedictorian with a Bachelors Degree in Music Business.

Upon graduating, she moved from Orlando to Nashville, and released her debut EP, "The Way Things Go".  That same year, she landed a top-3 spot in The American Songwriter Coffee House Tour Contest. Singer/songwriter judge, John Oates of Hall & Oates, stated, “After hearing the finalists, I can assure any doubters that the future of songwriting is in very good hands…I’d be proud to do a cowrite with any of them.”

In 2016, Stephanie’s relationship with her alma mater came full circle after winning an Artist Development contest run by 3300+Climbing, Full Sail University's student-run initiative who assisted Stephanie in further developing her career. Together, Berlanga and 3300+Climbing put together a visually impressive music video for her single, "Bandaid", recorded three songs in studio for her upcoming EP, and created a website from the ground-up.

Stephanie uses her lyrical and melodic talents as a driving force to get her stories out and as a bridge to connect and relate with others, all while staying true to herself through vulnerable performance. Some influences include John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac, Ed Sheeran, Ingrid Michaelson and Taylor Swift.

Stephanie's original music is available on iTunes, Spotify & other digital stores.
