Palm of Your Hand

Written By: Stephanie Burch-McMahan

Palm of Your Hand

It’s too cold to be throwing your heart
Out where the wind’s been blowing so hard.
And it’s too cold to be thinkin’ bout men
When you’ve got a burning fire dying in your den.

Marilyn Monroe had it almost right.
She said, “Love somebody and do it tonight!”
But Marilyn didn’t know, she never could tell,
First thing’s first. You gotta love yourself.

Chorus
It’s a beautiful moment when you’ve had enough
Of being on the outside looking in on love.
It’s a beautiful feeling when you understand
That you need not need you go the key in your hand
Everything you need is in the palm of your hand.

You can listen to the voice of fear in your head,
Keep defining your worth by who’s in your bed.
Putting all of your dreams in somebody else
Til your left with nothing inside of yourself.

But tears never lead nobody astray.
Their life’s little bread crumbs leading the way.
You got to follow the trail right down to your heart.
Unlock the door and let the healing start.

Chorus

Elizabeth Taylor

Written By: Stephanie Burch-McMahan

Elizabeth Taylor

I was nursing a bad heartache in my college days back at Baylor.
I took a walk to clear my head and I ran into Elizabeth Taylor.
She was real somewhere in my mind. She was looking for a cigarette.
She asked me if I had a light and then we had a talk I’ll never forget.

Chorus
She said, Don’t worry, it’ll get better. Here’s hoping you don’t lose hope.
(White diamonds last forever but lovers come and go.) 1st
(You’ve been through some stormy weather but up ahead there’s a rainbow.)2nd chorus
(This pain won’t last forever and up ahead there’s some rainbows) 3rd chorus
I’ve had my hard times too.
Some days I barely got through. (God, if you only knew). 3rd
But the truth is love is never really gone.
Oh, I’m just here to remind you how to carry on.

I could feel the pain and fear I’d been carrying my whole life.
And I couldn’t hold back the tears so I sat down next to Liz and cried.
She said, “Honey, it’s okay. Go ahead and let it all out.
But don’t you ever lose your faith cause that’s all you’ve got in these times of doubt.”

Chorus

Bridge:
Between the alcohol and Richard Burton,
I’ve done my share of hurtin’.
I know just what you’re going through.
