Biography

Born and raised in the mountains of rural Virginia, Stephanie Rooker fell in love with music and began performing as a small child. Rooker studied music at Oberlin College, where she continued her classical vocal training, earned a Bachelors Degree in Ethnomusicology with a focus on the music of the West African Diaspora, and came out as a composer and performer of folk, blues, and jazz. She toured briefly as half of an acoustic duo with bluegrass guitarist Chris Eldridge.

After moving to New York in September of 2004, Rooker began studying jazz with Charles Sibirsky of Slope Music in Brooklyn. She has since performed regularly in venues throughout the city including: The Blue Water Grill, Detour Bar, Two Boots Brooklyn, Night & Day Restaurant, Sugar Bar, Superfine, and 55 Bar.
