"A Local Singer wins National Talent Competition"

EDMONTON, ALTA. – A budding Edmonton Broadway star has followed in the footsteps of Michael Buble by winning the top prize at the Canadian Youth Talent Competition in Toronto.
Stephanie Savage, 19, of Edmonton won the national talent contest on Thursday night at the national convention of the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions in Toronto. Her rendition of “Taylor the Latte Boy” from Broadway diva Kristin Chenoweth’s album, As I Am, topped 13 other performers from across Canada to win the national prize.
Savage qualified for the national competition by winning the grand prize at Capital EX’s Northern Star Talent Search in Edmonton this past July. Savage also received the $1,000 Colin Forbes Scholarship to further her education in performing arts.
Previous winners of this prestigious Canadian Youth Talent Competition include international singing sensation Michael Buble, who won the contest in 1996 prior to the release of his first album. Alumni also include Canadian Idol stars Jenny Gear and Craig Sharp, and a number of performers who appear regularly in Broadway productions and movies such as Chicago.

Young Canadians between 13 and 21, representing fourteen zones from across Canada, perform their way from the local fair to the provincial zone level and then on to the National Finals.
