Biography

Stephen Manke is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who spans the musical spectrum from blues funk to alt-country to solo acoustic guitar. His performance history highlights include sitting in with blues legend Hubert Sumlin, as well as helping found the southwestern Wisconsin band "The Muscatels", whose slogan, "Blues Like Fine Wine", still echoes across an archetypal universe of Holsteins and muscle cars.

That band's lead singer, Dick Woppert, lends his distinctive growl and occasional soulful harmonies to many of Mr. Manke's tunes.

Mr. Manke also gigged with "Flashpoynt", a band whose previous membership included "Funky Drummer" Clyde Stubblefield.

Manke's current musical mission is providing quality compositions to the world via Taxi.

New Saints March

CRESCENT CITY

SO DOGGONE PRETTY

WITH THE SUN PUSHING UP IN YOUR SKY

SO GOOD TO SEE YA

WISH I COULD BE YA

BUT I KNOW I’LL NEVER GET THAT HIGH

SO I’LL JUST HAVE TO TIP MY HAT

TO A TOWN SO TOUGH AT BEING WHERE IT’S AT

PLEASE BELIEVE ME

YOU’LL PRECEDE ME

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN

NEW ORLEANS MUSIC

YOU CAN’T REFUSE IT

WHEN THAT SECOND LINE STARTS TO SWAY

I’D LIKE TO JOIN IT

AND BE ANOINTED

JUST LIKE COMMUNION ON FAT TUESDAY

BUT I GOT NO PROBLEM WITH TAKIN’ MY TIME

JUST PASS THAT BOTTLE ON DOWN THE LINE

PLEASE BELIEVE ME, YOU’LL PRECEDE ME

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN

1st Bridge

WELL YOU KNOW I SEEN YOU DOWN AT TIPITINA’S

JUST BEFORE THE BIG WIND COME

AND NOW HERE YOU ARE BACK WITH YOUR OLD GUITAR

YOU SURE DON’T LOOK LIKE IT HURTIN’ NONE

Solo

2nd Bridge

WELL I KNOW I SEEN YOU DOWN ON BOURBON STREET

JUST BEFORE THE BIG WIND COME

AND NOW HERE YOU ARE BACK WITH YOUR, YOUR OLD GUITAR

GONNA PLAY IT ‘TIL THE HEALIN’S DONE

PLEASE BELIEVE ME, YOU YOU’LL PRECEDE ME

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHIN’ IN

PLEASE BELIEVE ME, YOU WILL LEAD ME

I DON’T CARE AS LONG AS I STILL GET IN

CAUSE I GOT NO PROBLEM WITH TAKIN’ MY TURN

LONG AS I DON’T HAVE TO BURN

PLEASE BELIEVE ME, YOU’LL PRECEDE ME

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN

WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
