Way of the Mountains

The Way of the Mountains

He’s from West Virginia but we really don't know where.
He was born was a shiner, everybody called him "Bear".
One night after supper Bear went out in the hills,
There he shot the sheriff who was tearing down his still.

CHORUS:
It's the way of the mountains, the way of the land.
Don't go messin' with a moonshinin' man,
Turn and walk away or you could die today.
That's the way..... of the mountains.

Bear had a youngun’ but never had no wife.
He got ‘em from a cousin who went to jail for life,
‘Cause he caught revenuers sleepin' in the barn.
They were drunk on his moonshine, so he shot ‘em through the heart.

CHORUS

There’s a grave in the mountains bearin’ Bear’s name
He died in the summer of nineteen thirty eight
Me, I’m a picker, with a story to tell
I owe it to the man, Old Bear raised me well.

CHORUS

Poor Heart

Written By: Stephie Rae

Poor Heart CHORUS:

Every morning I wake up, thinking of you dear
Wishing that you were here, or I were there
So I write you futile letters I will never send
Wishing I could find a way to help your poor heart mend

V1:
I’d listen to your sorrows and feel your grief,
Rest your head on my shoulder, give you some relief.
I’d listen to your cries and feel your pain,
Reinforce your faith to know your prayers were not in vain.

CHORUS

V2: I’d listen to your dreams and feel your thrills,
Saddle up our horses so we can ride the hills
I’d listen to your songs and feel your love,
Our voices blend in harmony like the cooing of the doves.

CHORUS

BRIDGE:
Lord knows your mourning heart will take some time to mend
I would like to do my part and simply be your friend
Then when you are stable and your heart can sing again
Maybe you’ll be able to let a new love in

CHORUS, TAG: So I write you futile letters I will never send
Wishing I could find the words to help your poor heart mend
Wishing I could be your angel and help your poor heart mend

Old Buck Cain lived in the woods on the edge of town
The only friend he had to his name was an old blue tick hound
They stayed in the cabin all day long, only came out at night
With that old wore out hound he howled at the pale moonlight

CHORUS:
Old Buck Cain was a family man, until that dreadful night
Two men rode into town and killed his darlin’ wife

Some folks said he’s crazy, keep the young’uns out of sight
You could hear him just a’wailin’, over his wife’s gravesite
One day out of desperation, Buck rode into that town
With a 44 in his hand, Old Buck shot two men down

CHORUS

BRIDGE:
Old Buck Cain went insane on that killin’ day
They hung him from a big oak tree on his wife’s birthday

Townfolk all wondered why Buck did the things he done
He’d always been a peaceful man but never one to run
A story heard by eager ears told in the dead of night
Let them know Buck weren’t no fool, he shot those that took his wife

CHORUS
They killed his darlin’ wife,
Buck shot those that took his wife,
Buck shot those that took his wife.

When the Reins Fell

Her soldier was so brave in war, he never faltered when cannons roared.
He left the battlefield he had won, to work the cattle field they lived on.
When her oil lamp in the window glows, her soldier comes in from fields he sows,
She cleans him up and feeds him well, as she savors his sweet, sweet smell.

When the reins fell, her soldier had nowhere to hide,
When the reins fell, her soldier had to end their ride,
When the reins fell, her soldier hung his head and cried,
When the reins fell.

Her soldier guides their moonlit rides, and supports her throughout their lives.
They toodle on the range so far, she throws her lasso around a star.
He takes her on long country walks, and he listens when she talks,
He always comes whene’er she calls, and helps her climb mountains tall.

When the reins fell, her soldier had nowhere to hide,
When the reins fell, her soldier had to end their ride,
When the reins fell, her soldier hung his head and cried,
When the reins fell.

Her soldier has a heart of gold, a caring spirit as they grow old,
He lifts her up when she’s feeling down, and makes her laugh just horsin’ around.
She wraps her arms around his neck, he rubs his head upon her chest,
She grooms his coat for Sunday’s ride, and shows her steed poised by her side.

When the reins fell, her soldier knew ‘twas their last ride,
When the reins fell, upon his back his lady had died,
When the reins fell, Soldier hung his head and cried,
When the reins fell.

That rusty key in Granny’s drawer fits the tack room’s creaky door.
Cobwebs cover the oil lamp’s glow, and her soldier comes no more.

High In the Night

Written By: Stephie Rae

I gave my life to you, You say you love me too
You’re gonna go far, You shine like a star
High in the Night

I bare my soul to you, You share your heart with me too
You’re gonna go far, You shine like a star
High in the Night

Do what’s best for you, and see it through. Stay true to you.
Follow your dreams, don’t worry ‘bout me. Set yourself free.

I gave your life to you. You gave my life to me too
You’re gonna go far, You shine like a star
High in the Night

You’re gonna go far, You shine like a star
High in the Night

You’re gonna go far, You shine like a star
High in the Night

Victoria

Written By: Stephie Rae

Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be running back to her?
Isn’t it clear? Her smile from ear to ear draws you nearer to your girl,

Victoria. You’ve been waiting so long
To see her pretty smile light up her face
And light your way to her embrace.

Why aren’t you gone? Shouldn’t you be packed and Texas bound?
A sacred bond holds baby in your arms so safe and sound, wrapped around

Victoria. You’ve been waiting so long
To see her pretty smile light up her face
And light your way to her embrace.

It’s obvious, without the love of your daughter to fill you up,
You can never love another it tears you up. Forget about us,
Be on your way, the longer you stay the further away

from Victoria. She’s been waiting so long
To see her Daddy’s smile light up her face
And light your way to

Victoria. You’ve been waiting so long
To see her pretty smile light up her face
And light your way to her embrace.
And light your way to her embrace.
Why are you here? Why aren’t you gone? Why are you here?
