Biography

Singer/songwriter Steph Shaw's music combines pop melodies with more classically-driven piano accompaniments. Her music harmoniously interweaves her artistic background as a vocalist, lyricist and composer. Formally trained in both voice and composition, Steph has branched out into the acoustic pop world as her music continually grows and evolves just as her story does.

As a grad student under the mentorship of composer Edward Knight, Steph was encouraged to find her authentic and unique artistic voice by merging her natural pop flair with her classical upbringing. While her studies taught her about developing her creative process, she's now uniting her passions for singing and composing as she writes fresh New York-inspired material. At this new turn in her musical journey, Colorado native Steph finds that the little things keep her grounded. Whether it's engaging in a deep conversation with a good friend or walking barefoot in the grass, Steph daily discovers those things which remind her of who she is through her music.

Small in frame but abounding in heart, Steph invites you to know her in her most brave and broken moments. Enlivening her written poetry with rich musicality spiced with sometime funk, her lyrics and music don't hesitate. They don't gloss over. They're not afraid of admitting truth. They simply reflect and confess. They bend and question. They hope and reassure.

Back From Here

Written By: Steph Shaw

If it's too much to ask
I'd rather not
If it's too much to let down
I'd rather not
But what if what I'm afraid of
Is too much?

So many stories
We told ours well
To you I can say nothing
But in this space I can tell
That I'm left with what I know

Seems like too much
Not to know anything at all

Back from here
I'm back to you
Back to all we can't go back to
So what do we do
When we go
Back from here?

Sometimes I think
It's what I'm incapable of
But it's not on me
If you don't let yourself be loved
And you don't
Hold on to it tight enough

Seems like too much
Not to know anything at all

It's obvious
So obvious
But I can't change
What everyone sees
It's obvious
So obvious

Back from here
I'm back to you
Back to all we can't go back to
So what do we do
When we go
Back from here?

Pages

Written By: Steph Shaw

I think I said
All the wrong things to you
And, I didn't mean to...and
I think that I wanted you to stay
Instead you went away
Instead you went away

I think 'bout the
Way I'd like it to go
But, maybe it's not for me to know
But, I think
That you wanted me to stay
So, don't let me get away

And, I tried to write it down
In a few words
Tryin' to figure how to find
What comes first
All the pages I have
Wanna be filled by --

Where does this leave me?
Am I here on my own?
Writing all the things that don't mean
Anything at all?
All the pages I have
Wanna be filled
By you

You think I'm always
Wearing my heart on my sleeve
But, maybe it's not so easy to read
If you think
You could take another look
You'd find I'm not such an open book

And, I tried to write it down
In a few words
Tryin' to figure how to find
What comes first
All the pages I have
Wanna be filled by--

Where does this leave me?
Am I here on my own?
Writing all the things that don't mean
Anything at all?
All the pages I have
Wanna be filled
By you

Make It Better

Written By: Steph Shaw

Take my hand
Let's take a walk
Let's go back
Take it for what it's worth
I know that

But there's one thing before you go

Make it better
Didn't I?
Make it better
This time
I'll do better

I'm finding
I'm in circles over you
I want to find I'm stepping out
To find you

But there's one thing you didn't know
Something I didn't tell you

Make it better
Didn't I?
Make it better
This time
I'll do better
This time

These words are
Little things
I need for you to hear
I can't give you everything
If you're not here
