Steph Wells, a 2007 Calabasas High School graduate, has released a five-song EP titled “Maybe It’s the Music” on iTunes. The song “1492” was voted the senior song for the class of 2007 at Calabasas High and was played at graduation.
Wells’ style is said to be similar to that of Taylor Swift, Michelle Branch and a young Crow.
Wells launched the EP release with an engagement on April 8 at “The Bitter End” club in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. This landmark venue has featured countless musical stars dating back to the sixties, including Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, and, more recently, Lady Gaga.
During high school Wells played bass in the rock band Hollywood Ending with classmates Kyle Draper, David Burris and Sean Draper. Wells continues her collaboration with them. Burris programmed a beat for the song “Leaving” on her EP.
“Thanks to the Internet, he was able to be a part of my project, even though I was recording in New Jersey and he was studying at USC,” said Wells.
Wells is a junior majoring in music business at New York University. She formed a New Yorkbased band with three fellow NYU students. Finding practice space in New York was a challenge and the band used a small apartment in Chinatown as a rehearsal studio.
Well’s goal is to be a successful songwriter.
