"Gotta have your 'salsa punk'? So does StereoHype"

Long Beach-based StereoHype can easily be described as one of the best local punk bands. Their particular sound, christened "salsa punk" is absolutely original and quite catchy.
"It's definitely energetic music that will get you moving. Kind of a cross between melodic punk and ska," says Steve Thoms, the group's drummer.
He's quite right. No one is ever standing still for any amount of time when StereoHype is onstage.
The masterminds behid StereoHype are Chase Thoms on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Thoms on drums, Scott Plauche on bass and backup vocals *now Ronnie Gardner*, Nic Rohde on guitar, trumpet, and backup vocals, and newest member A.J. Neyrey on saxophone.
StereoHype's music is influenced by bands such as Goldfinger, NOFX and the Mad Caddies.
"Our vocal harmonies, dueling guitar leads and the trumpet and saxophone set our sound apart and make us unique as a band," Steve says. "But what really makes us different is that we have such a hard work ethic. Everything you hear about StereoHype shows and everything, that's all from us."
The band practices regularly, does their own promotion, books their own shows and even toured this past summer with fellow local band Love Storys End.
"That was a lot of fun," Steve says. "It was a good learning experience. We're looking forward to doing this for the rest of our lives."
Currently, the only local show scheduled for StereoHype is at the Long Beach Pavilion on Dec. 18, and it will be an all-ages show. To find out more, go to www.stereohypemusic.com

"StereoHype shows impressive energy"

Review of "StereoHype," StereoHype (Self Released EP)
StereoHype is a local ska-punk band, perhaps the only one from Mississippi. The members (Nicholas Rohde/guitar, trumpet, back-up vocals; Scott Plauche/bass, back-up vocals; Chase Thoms/guitar, lead vocals; and Stephen Thoms/drums) put on a fiery show and sellt his "seven songs for five bucks" CD at shows.
The songs show a progression from pop punk to ska's more complex rhythms. This disc is a good reminder of the band's energy, and a promising look forward at better things to come from these talented young musicians. The drummer and lead vocalist/guitarist are brothers, so no wonder there's a supernatural tightness in the song construction. Add melodic bass, alternately crunchy/clean guitars, the occasional trumept hook ("Ole!"), and you have a fine way to finance a new recording (in the works) as well as a good intro to the band. If your favorite store doesn't have it, go to a show or check www.stereohype.tk.

"Local Scene Alert"

StereoHype, a popular local band (and perhaps Mississippi's only ska-punk band) with a fairly large fan base, will be performing July 24 at The Downtown Tavern in Gulfport. The show starts at 9 p.m., and will feature a New Orleans ska band, The Retakes.
Here's hoping that Three Doors Down member Todd Harrell's talent search will extend to bands playing in a variety of musical genres, not just the faceless legion of Metallica wannabes that dominate the airwaves of one of our most popular local radio stations.

Bio

The sonic explosion that is StereoHype has been captivating audiences with every show, and there is certainly no end to that in sight. Based out of Bay St. Louis, MS (of hurricane Katrina fame) the band has a sound not usually heard from the Deep South. Their sound has become something truly original, staying away from the fads of the times, expanding on their already well established core following and gathering many new loyal fans with each and every show. Upbeat aggressive rock with a pop sensibility combined with the clean tones of ska and reggae on top of smooth, snazzy brass lines makes their sound truly genre defining, if they even could be grouped into a genre.

• StereoHype have released 4 studio EP’s, completely DIY.

• StereoHype will release their 5th and debut full length studio album “More Than Motion” in May. The album contains 13 brand new songs – including the title track “More Than Motion”, ”Loco Motive”, “Times Like These”, “Escape Route”, ”Thirteenth Story” and more. The album was produced by Mark Black.

• Release shows are held at The Brickhouse in Houma, LA, The Hard Rock in Biloxi, MS, and The House of Blues in New Orleans, LA.

• After the events of hurricane Katrina, StereoHype kept the local music scene alive by playing along the gulf coast as much as possible, spreading their name and music to people in need of an escape.

• During the release of Tequila Sunrise in late 2006, StereoHype managed to secure playing at Mobile’s BayFest, one of the south’s biggest festivals.

• In 2007 StereoHype shared the main stage w/artists such as Daughtry and HellYeah at Mobile’s BayFest after a live TV interview of their upcoming performance.

• StereoHype worked their way through many talented bands in battles to bring them to the Semi-Finals of BodogBattle, where they played a riveting set at the House of Blues, Dallas.

• StereoHype was commissioned by the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May 5, 2008 to play their Cinco de Mayo celebration in front of a packed house.

• CPR Fest XII was opened by StereoHype on July 5, 2008 to over 10,000 alongside POD, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, and more. Following their explosive performance, StereoHype was featured in the southern Mississippi newspaper The Sun Herald as one of the tightest performing groups at the festival, selling more merchandise than any local band has ever sold that had the opening spot.

• The performance at CPR Fest along with other videos can be found online at www.youtube.com/stereohype.

• StereoHype has never had any sort of label support or management, and has done everything they have accomplished on a DIY lifestyle. They frequently make trips up north for festivals and shows, including Atlanta’s Mass Ska Raid and Tennessee’s Ska Weekend. They were invited by Full Sail University of Orlando to come record in December of 2008.
