stereosleep brings the dark edge back to music...might best be described as a bizarre mix between the poppy drive of the Strokes, the electirc edge of Queens of the Stone Age, and the ethereal mood of Radiohead into something completely new and hard to define.

Biography

Donny Ray, guitarist and songwriter began writing playing guitar before undergrad in college and has been playing for about 16 years. He began writing songs in 2003 and recording them on the 60 second sound recorder on an old PC laptop. Song writing became a nearly constant passion and Williams began to amass a library of tiny 60 second songs often pasted together to four to five minute lenght. The sound quality was horrible, but this was the basis for the sound you hear today.

In 2007, Williams ventured out and joined a band called Dos. The collaboration played several venues in DC for about a year before life and circumstances put playing on hold. Later in 2008, Donny Ray met Evan Oxhorn, and the two clicked immediately. They began putting together songs in Donny Ray’s basement studio. The pair upgraded their equipment and music software and began getting serious. Evan left to study abroad and returned two years later and the pair picked up where they left off, but this time even more determined to put together a project. Using Craigslist, the pair discovered an amazing bass player from New York, Bruce Fulton, who played for several bands and who had been living and doing some recording in Japan for several years. The band discovered an amazing drummer out of Wisconsin, Cooper Glodoski who is a natural fit and fell right into the sound. Hoping for a fuller sound, the band brought on Alexandre Jeanty, a guitarist from DC who adds amazingly creative riffs. Evan left again to work out of the country, and now the foursome has tightened its sound, and is playing DC venues and recording their fist studio project. The band is also booking shows in New York City.

stereosleep’s sound is real rock music with a depth and a very rich soulfulness. The music is all about life. Its very cerebral, very intense, and illustrates the tension, happiness, sadness, frustration, longing, and excitement of life. stereosleep is a dream in HD.

All the Pretty Things

All the Pretty Things

It was a real cool dream
Pedal the floor and an engine up full steam
And as we drive along
We sing a song before the water gets to deep

It was a real cool scene
All the pretty people and
All their little pretty things
And as the night wore on
The feeling’s gone
And all the roses start to bleed
And all their noses start to bleed

(chorus)
But you’re so beautiful
But you’ve got everything

It was a real cool night
Threading through the people running to city lights
And as the ball come down
You look around before the darkness steals your sight

It was some real insight
A million pretty people try to feed their appetite
And as the thunder sounds,
the rain comes down and
pretty people start to cry
But ugly people start to fight

(chorus)
But you’re so beautiful
But you’ve got everything

(bridge)
Won’t somebody give me a hand
Clear the sky above and help me understand

Won’t somebody show me the way,
Wave a wand and turn the darkness into day

I can’t find a wand
I can’t find a wand
I can’t find your wand
I can’t find your love.

Sail

Sail Lyrics

Lights out, on the freeway
Livings Hard, Dying’s Easy
Feeling Sick, Kind of Queasy
I thought I told you not to leave me alone.

Gotta Go, Gotta leave here,
Gotta Run, Shouldn’t be here,
Made a choice, thought it’d be clear,
Needed space so a nigga could roam.

Not here, Not there,
Not far, Not near.

I toed the line and I go for broke,
Now all my hope is going up in smoke,
The further I go, feeling further behind
The patience I found is such a waste of time

My Ship,
(was docked at the bay, swaying in the waves, sailing any day)
Has sailed away,
(sailing out to sea, leaving without me, floating silently)
I’m looking out from the coast
(dissolving in the haze, colors fade to gray, watching as it fades)
As its leaving the bay
(ship has sailed away, ship has sailed away, ship has sailed away)

This is real, no more dreaming
Burning out, fire steaming
All is lost, want to free me
I want to ride the bullet train on my own

Not here, not there
Not far, no fear

I toed the line and I go for broke,
Now all my hope is going up in smoke,
The further I go, feeling further behind,
The patience I find is just a waste of time.

My Ship,
(was docked at the bay, swaying in the waves, sailing any day)
Has sailed away,
(sailing out to sea, leaving without me, floating silently)
I’m looking out from the coast
(dissolving in the haze, colors fade to gray, watching as it fades)
As its leaving the bay
(ship has sailed away, ship has sailed away, ship has sailed away)

When all you have left is a dream,
And you hopes are washed away in a day with the rain,
And all that you love’s gone away,
And the friends that you’ve made are further away and ashamed,
And when the world knows that you’ve failed, and the good that you did in you life couldn’t save you from hell.

You can sail away (4x)
