"Sterling Y (Cover Story)"

Building a style out of their love of music and the need to express everything they've got, Sterling Y is touring and utilizing South Carolina's need for a groove of pure soul. Young only in year's and untouched by life's tainted irony, they've got a fire in their bellies that we should all hope carries them to our stages.
Led by Michael on guitar and harmonica, we are hit with a passively aggressive rasp of a voice that seems natural and uplifting. Caught in a swirl of words and expressions, there seems to be a need for him to tell a story.
If you need a show to build you up on strong, solid music, you've found them. Comparing them to a lighter Black Crowes and Dave Matthews on acid is as close as I can get without comprimising their individuality. They have a bluegrass quality but with less blue and more grass. It's a fresh approach to an old feeling of comfort...sweet melodies entangledwith vocal poems of life, love, and the expression that is music. - Scene-Azine

"Rock 93.5 Radio Interview"

Dave Farra: (after live studio performance of "Better Days") "...wow, nicely done guys! Now, I've gotta tell ya, I see a lot of national acts come in here, ya know, with record deals and so on, and to be perfectly honest, you were better than most of them. That was very impressive. And the set last night was very impressive as well..."

"Sterling Y - Ten Comes Twice - CD"

Sterling Y has a great classic rock sound with the rock sensibilities of Tesla with a taste of a Black Crows blues groove. All of the elements align perfectly on this release. The music is solid and the lyrics and vocals are terrific. Of the few bands getting back to that good ol' solid rock sound, Sterling Y is one of the bands at the top of the pile. Go ahead and pick up this release and hear for yourself.

"Oct 24th The Basement Show Review"

From the FIRST note, I was immediately sucked in. In the 3 yrs that I have been in the local music scene, NEVER have I heard anything and I mean NOTHING like what I heard last night. People say that MUZIK MAFIA is the ONLY place to see true talent and hear music that just hits the core of your soul, well I got news for those that think nothing can top MUZIK MAFIA, and that is YOU HAVEN'T SEEN STERLING Y . Song after Song, Michael Hobby and the rest of the band BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN!.

I didn't even stay for the last act, and forgive me for not remembering the names of the artists that played before and after STERLING Y, but the other artists that were there, cannot even hope they came close to what STERLING Y was last night - Show Reviewer (Ameda)

Bio

Sterling Y is an Rock n Roll band from Nashville TN. Their new record "Thick Like Thieves" will be available this summer. Sterling Y will be coming to a city near you very soon so keep checking back for updates. Please check out the songs above to preview the new record. Thanks so much for your continuing support and we will see you all at the big show.

Sterling Y's made a great record with a modern sound, but to catch them live is to hear what it's all about. The Sterling in their name is no accident; the riffs and backbeat are hammered silver. Twin guitar arrangements tightly wound as Queen unwind with an Aerosmith punch to the gut. It's enough to say the lead vocals command an equal place at the table, and that's no easy task given the tight riffs and a backbeat that's heavy and supple at the same time like few bands this side of Zeppelin have ever been able to muster. Guys this young with this much command of their riffs and arrangements are hard to come by. It's a hard row to hoe being a rock band in this digital age of hip hop and Beatles mashes, but Sterling Y are a horse to bet on. Hell, they remind me of Thin Lizzy. That's reason enough to pay the cover. Go see them and know that rock is alive.

Formed in 2005, when lead singer Michael Hobby and guitarist Bill Satcher met in a South Carolina music store, Sterling Y quickly gained a following in their native Columbia. Then they decided to pull up stakes and move to Nashville, TN in the fall of 2006 to record Ten Comes Twice with industry veteran Rogers Masson (Marilyn Manson, The Mavericks, Eric Clapton).
