Stesha Cano

Most often described as “the voice of Blue-Eyed Soul”, singer-songwriter Stesha Cano’s music is genre-bending. Jazzy, soulful, bluesy; her sound defies classification.
Inspired by nature, love, loss, and life, Stesha tells it like it is with her music. She is unafraid to open her heart and her soul to the listener and give an intimate portrayal of love’s agony and ecstasy.
In her debut album, “Like a Bee”, Cano shares her sorrows and victories. She invites the listener to share in her poignant love, subsequent heartache, and invariable triumph.
Stesha Cano is simultaneously a “man’s woman” and a “girl’s girl” . Equally comfortable singing about love and devotion (“Glass Walls”) and belting out you-done-me-wrong anthems (“Like a Bee”, “I’m Sorry”), she evokes a range of emotion one can’t help but be moved by.
With the October 2013 release of her sophomore album, "Simple As Everything", Cano’s clever lyrics and phrasing continue to evolve, while always thought-provoking and full of evocative imagery. “Simple As Everything” melds a more modern approach to her signature R&B styling, with an intriguing return to roots of the old south, early blues, and traditional jazz. Instrumentation was recorded live, most simultaneously, for terrifically fresh energy. For the first time, Cano also uses “the magic of MIDI,” adding delicately placed layers of electronic sounds which, she believes, “add so much ambience … it would be hard to capture with anything else.”
“Simple As Everything” shares life stories with powerful melodies, intricate harmonies, beautiful horn lines, acoustic and electric guitars, moments of Spanish-influenced percussion, haunting strings, even a quirky accordion, all highlighting Cano’s unmistakable vocals. Stesha shares, “It’s never been a concern that my songs don’t sound alike. They’re all written and recorded by me, so they undeniably have ‘my sound,’ even if the feel is different on each one. Listeners will be carried on an emotional journey to many geographic locations, in an exciting auditory adventure.” Cano invites her audience to listen well, think deeply, and form its own meanings out of her clever poetry.
Like Stesha herself, her music is a dichotomy. Her lyrics are playful yet profound. They are deep yet infused with tongue-in cheek humor and clever wordplay all presented within soul-stirring vocals woven with intricate harmonies.
For her studio recordings, Cano utilizes the finest musicians to create complex layering and sophisticated progressions. Though the albums feature a full studio band including horns and auxiliary percussion, the songs are strong enough to resonate with live audiences when performed by Cano’s powerhouse voice accompanied by only an acoustic guitar.
