Steve Bird

Steve Bird

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Writes tunes in the acoustic/folk pop genre.

Biography

I would describe my music as reflective and somewhat dreamy, but at the same time catchy and instantly memorable!
Love and definitely influenced by Josh Pyke, Finn Brothers, Augie March, Ryan Adams, Ron Sexsmith, Gomez, Tom Waits, etc.

I'm currently focusing on writing and recording demo songs and submitting to contests, etc in order to start building up an online profile.

I believe my songs will work really well in tv, film & other online media channels & I'm hoping to secure publishing deals to bring this to fruition.

I have extensive experience performing as a singer/guitarist in various lineups over the last 20 years, playing all styles of music, acoustic/ folk pop being my main type of gig.

Please have a listen and I hope you enjoy the songs.
Cheers,
Steve

Laura's Late Again

Written By: Steve Bird

(v1)
Suddenly you drop by out of the blue
Then say you'll see me again real soon
I never expected the day to unfold so mysteriously
So you've been chasing all your dreams
It's nice to know I've made the last scene
Would it be rude to ask you why you're here, after all this time

(chorus)
So what's new, Laura's late again
Oh so true, Laura's late again
She get's through by the seat of her pants
Always puts a clock on romance
Oh no, Laura's late again

(v2)
Now that I am informed of all your plans
And the extent of your perfect tan
Come down to earth for awhile & face up to yourself
Life's not a sunfilled holiday
I don't care what the magazines say
Sooner or later the voice of sense, catches up with you

(chorus)
(v3)
You don't have to say bye to decadence
Just save it up for the weekends
Hanging around is one of life's chores, that we all must do
But I can't stop a girl so young
You have to do what's left undone
Maybe I'll see you five years, from our last brief rendevous

(chorus)
Laura's late again x 3

I Don't Care

Written By: Steve Bird

I don't care, I don't care about the noise pollution,
bouncing through our precious city air
I don't care, I wouldn't care if the seeds of revolution,
were planted in my hair

I can't see, I can't see what the fuss is all about,
there's enough for everyone
I don't know, I don't know why you're speaking in such a serious tone

I don't care that you've gone away, you were here yesterday

I don't care, I don't care about those screaming neighbours,
I put my pillow on my head
I don't care, I wouldn't care if I slept into next week,
you might think that I was dead.

I can't see, I can't see the point of pushing something so far,
what if you don't reach the end.
I don't know, I don't know if I could do this,
even for a special friend

I don't care that you've gone away, you were here yesterday

I don't care, I don't care about the noise pollution,
bouncing through our precious city air
I don't care, I wouldn't care if the seeds of revolution,
were planted in my hair

I can't see, I can't see what the fuss is all about,
there's enough for everyone
I don't know, I don't know why you're speaking in such a serious tone

I don't care that you've gone away, you were here yesterday

Pleasantly Distracted

Written By: Steve Bird

Pleasantly distracted, staring through a window
a hole into the unknown
a garden for my weary eyes to roam
Carelessly, just lock into a tree and dream

Carelessly unwanted, I slip under the table
returning when I'm able
emerging from a cold dark sea
Carefully, breath the air surrounding me,
pleasantly distracted

If I'm not here, then I could be anywhere
Sailing free, I could end up anywhere

Pleasantly distracted, running up a slippery hill
with shoes that have no soles on
Taking in the passers by
Gracefully, lifted by the telltale wind

Carelessly unwanted, I slip under the table
returning when I'm able
emerging from a cold dark sea
Carefully, breath the air surrounding me,
pleasantly distracted

If I'm not here, then I could be anywhere
Sailing free, I could end up anywhere

Rather be in love

Written By: Steve Bird

And when that warm hit comes, I feel it in my veins
It shoots from head to toe, the message clearly plain

I'd rather be in love
I'd rather see the sun set in all it's colours

The smell of old & young, the taste of something new
It helps you focus so the memory becomes true

I'd rather be in love
I'd rather see the sun set in all it's colours

If you subscribe although your day is shot to hell
Just find a leaning post & read out what I sell.

Our work is nearly done, the sleeves are rolling down
Take time to clear your mind, take refuge in no sound

I'd rather be in love
I'd rather be the town that cops all the weather
I'd rather be in love
I'd rather see the sun set in all it's colours

Come Away

Written By: Steve Bird

And now & then, I hear the tired fall
I'm wondering, did they hear the siren call
Their bodies still, but their hearts beat like a drum
Lacking melody, chords a vacant hum

Come away now, you can come away now
Come away now, you should come away

Looking for, some colour in the dark
And wishing on, a never ending spark
A lottery, to take some pain away
Or a monologue, when there's nothing left to say

Come away now, you can come away now
Come away now, you should come away
