Biography

Steve Coleman is a New Jersey native who brings ten years of performance experience out each time he and his Martin guitar take stage. In addition to being a solo performer Steve has been front man for acoustic roots group Gabriel’s hold since their inception. (www.gabrielshold.com) Steve’s weaving of folk and rock into his gutsy delivery leaves the audience with an energized show every time and his smile is so contagious, it leaves you with no doubt; he’s having a great time.
Earlier this year, Steve decided it was time to begin work on recordings for a solo album. At the same time he also applied to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Based on the pre-production recordings, Steve was selected to perform as an emerging artist showcase act. Soon after the prestigious festival, Steve completed his debut solo album “not making much sense” and he’s been receiving airplay in numerous states as well as international play.

The Daily Record (NJ) writes, “The crisp vocals of Steve Coleman, the rootsy road trip inspired lyrics and the spirited rhythm grabs you magnetically.”
Artlies forum writes, "When you listen to The Promise - Smoke
suddenly fills the room and there is crude oil dripping down the walls. That's what his voice can do to a song."

Lyrics

The Ghost

Written By: Steve Coleman

You said forever and ever and ever
We’d go on together, follow no one
Or the lines they’d draw
Said something bout that time
In Casco Bay long the rocky line,
You’d prefer the broken down, simplified
Way, we’d do it right
Stirring restlessly, you feel a tap,
Something hazy, that something gray
Is quite alive today

I believe in the Ghost, that comes,
That brings you life half over
I believe in the Ghost, that comes,
That brings you life half over again and again

I have to settle down,
Catch the breeze, it’s moving slow,
And every time we come back,
You said I love it, I love it away from home,
Could you follow, could you follow,
Could wait a long time, could you share this all
With me, baby, I don’t know why I ask so
Like I didn’t know

Stirring restlessly, you feel a tap,
Something hazy,
that something gray
Is quite alive today

Pan

Written By: Steve Coleman

I woke up Saturday morn at the crack of noon, took a ride down to that shady tree, it’s where I spent my youth. Saw these kids dancing to the changing leaves, they were joyous like me back then, that’s how we used to be. They ran and laughed and played, and noticed me standing in the shade, Hey there Mr., we know you..
Can you teach us how to fly
Don’t know much about this flying business anyway, isn’t flying in movies, or in children books, well I’m, not a movie, and I’m not a book, I’m just a man..
And they hollered back and said No your not just a man you’re the one who comes to take us away from our ordinary lives, ah to take us higher..
Can you teach us how to fly
So take us up, up into the crimson sky, take us up, and teach us how to fly, take us up, up to where we may be, where the clouds are dancing, they always will be..
I woke up Monday morning half past noon, took a ride down to that shady tree it’s where I spent my youth, saw these kids dancing to the changing leaves, they were joyous like me..

Someday

Someday – Steve Coleman (Dented Coffee Mug Music ASCAP)

SOMEDAY A PRIEST WILL SAY TO ME, TO STAND UP FOR LOVE,
THE HARDEST THING YOU’LL DO
AND OVER COUNTING THE FLOWERS, ONE BY ONE TWO BY TWO
EACH ONE STANDS FOR STRENGTH, THE CURSOR I GOT TO KNOW IN YOU
I DREAMED IN COLOR ABOUT THE NIGHT WE DINED IN BLUE
SOMEDAY I DREAM US TO BE, COUNTING LITTLE DIGITS TOES, THOSE LITTLE TOES
TO FASHION A WALL DRAWIN CRITTER TO CLIMB THE WALLS, MAKE THE NOISE
EACH ONE STANDS FOR STRENGTH, THE CURSOR I GOT TO KNOW IN YOU,
YOU STRUGGLE TO BE PROUD YOU KNOW THAT,
ALL AT ONCE IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM I WAS ILLUMINATED I STOOD UP PROUD ACCEPTING THAT, MY LIFE, CHANGED, FOREVER I WOULD PLANT MY FEET FOR THE RIDE
I DREAMED IN COLOR, ABOUT THE NIGHT WE DINED IN BLUE, I MADE ANOTHER PROMISE TO BE REAL AND TRUE
EACH ONE STANDS FOR STRENGTH, THE CURSOR I GOT TO KNOW IN YOU,
AND I STRUGGLE TO BE PROUD YOU KNOW THAT,
ALL AT ONCE IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM I WAS ILLUMINATED I STOOD UP PROUD ACCEPTING THAT, MY LIFE, CHANGED, FOREVER I WOULD PLANT MY FEET FOR THE RIDE I KNOW WE WERE MOVING, I KNOW WE WERE CHAGNING, I KNOW.
