Rock-n-Roll Granny

Written By: Steven Goad

(Introduction to old hymn "we shall not be moved)

Old lady Shirley gets up bright and early every Sunday morn'.
Her blue hair in curls, and her favorite pearls, she listens for the horn.
Then she waits for a ride from her grandson, Clyde, she knows what she wants to do.
It's a Sunday tradition she ain't been missin' since nineteen-sixty-two.

As she walks up the asile, all the children smile, they just call her "Granny G."
She's been comin' for years, she ain't got no fears, she says the service sets her free.
But before too long they start the first song, she feels her soul on fire.
As she stands up proud, she sings the chorus loud, you know it's not the same old choir.

She's a rock-n-roll granny, watch her shake her fanny to the rhythm if the drummer's beat.
She says the hymns are fine, but that's not the line that moves her to her feet.
She's been living the praise for all of her days, she's just doing what the spirit knows.
That rock-n-roll worship's got the best of her, just watch old granny go.

Old Shirley's was livin' that rock-n-roll rhythm way back in fifty-one,
And the feelings as strong as it was all along, you know she wants to have some fun.
And though her life was renewed when she was twenty-two, she still feels that beat in her heart.
She says 'I'm seventy-five, but I'm still alive, no time for the funeral to start.

She's a rock-n-roll granny, and there ain't too many that can match old Shirley's style.
You know she ain't been missin' that long-faced religion, she likes worship with a smile.
She's been living the praise for all of her days, she's just doin' what the spirit knows.
That rock-n-roll worship's got the best of her, just watch old granny go.
