Steve Heist has been singing and playing piano exclusively for Royal Caribbean for the last seven years in the various Schooner Bars onboard the Voyager, Adventure, Navigator, Enchantment, Vision, Grandeur and Majesty of the Seas. With a repertoire of over six thousand songs, he performs such an incredible variety of music to generate the often heard comment, What DONT you play?
Not only does he sing and play piano, and guitar, but is adept at comedy, impersonations, and sings in five languages! Steve has also now added a complete MP3 backup to the act.
Steve first started performing at the age of 18 as a singer/dancer/actor in musicals. At the prestigious St. Louis Municipal Opera, then, the worlds largest outdoor theatre, he appeared for three years in musicals with the likes of Donald OConner, Betty White, Stubby Kaye, Pernell Roberts and other celebrities too numerous to mention. After his third year, tragedy seemed to stike as he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident effectively ending his career.
Steve had begun his piano studies privately at the age of seven and he continued through the college level at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. A classmate heard him playing, and gave him the idea for a new career, singing and playing the piano.
Since then, Steve has worked around the world, playing all over Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean, as well as about 45 of the 50 states.
Las Vegas was his home for over two and a half years where he played everywhere, including the Riviera Hotel, the Dunes Hotel, the Showboat Hotel and the greatest accomplishment of them all, Liberaces Tivoli Gardens Restaurant.
Disneyland, in Anaheim, California, was so impressed with his ability that Steve was the first performer ever chosen to do a one-man show at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon.
He has also worked with The Dukes of Dixieland, The Spike Jones Jr. Show in Los Angeles and the Mike Douglas Show in Philadelphia. Along the way, the renowned Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs offered him a five-week contract. As a tribute to his talent and longevity, Steve eventually went on to pursue other interests three and a half years later.
