On Steve Lyons' web bulletin board is this paragraph of praise for Hurt'n On Old Memories, Lyon's debut 12-song CD including half old favourites, half originals he penned himself. Now available at a dozen New Brunswick outlets, it will also be for sale at a Randy Vail and Lost Highway concert this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cambridge-Narrows Municipal Centre. It's a free open-air (bring a lawn chair) concert that will serve as a CD lunch party, as well. A debut release long awaited by Steve's legion of devoted fans, the CD will appeal to nearly all Nashville-era music lovers although two longtime favourites of mine, Daddy Frank and Ramblin' Fever, were written by Bakersfield's Merle Haggard. And Steve's lyric writing is on par with almost anything coming out of Music City these days. The track 1 to which the above review refers, Just Can't Face The Truth, is about a man grieving for a lost love. Track 3 is the title song Hurt'n On Old Memories inspired by a remark made by his wife Lynn - "Keep that up, buddy, and you'll be living here alone." His response: "if you were going to leave me you should have done it 20 years ago when I could have handled it better!" . The four others he penned are just as intriguing. It's Just Our Timing That's Off is about a couple that marry young, divorce, then marry again years later. God, Family, Friends and Memories describes a recovering alcoholic's regrets. Cause A Life Ain't So Long is written for wife Lynn, and Just Some Things (I Thought I'd Tell You For Now) is a tribute to his father's memory. The other tracks are Hank Williams Jr's Blues Man, Barnes & Gosdin's Chiseled In Stone, Mel Tillis' Heart Over Mind and Frizzell & Sanger's I Never Go Round Mirrors. Framing Steve's voice is some of the most beautiful instrumentation you'll hear anywhere. It features: Ray Caissie on steel guitar; Randy Vail, bass; Mike McNamera, guitar; John Somerville, drums and Steve himself playing guitar, piano, keys and harmonica. Born 1955 in Fredericton, Steve grew up in Marysville in a musical family. In the neighborhood, Dwayne Pond and Aubrey Hanson lived only a stone's throw away. He played concerts and dances at a young age after his first stage performance at 12. Graduating from Fredericton High, he attended Moncton Community College, then moved to Saint John and played with several groups eventually forming the Highway 40 Country Blues Band. Eighteen years ago he joined Lost Highway. At this Sunday's Cambridge-Narrows concert Steve, Randy and Lost Highway will be joined by the great vocalist Joyce Boone and the fiddling singing duo Pat and Beth O'Donnell. Steve was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Steve's family is musical and his neighbourhood was rich in musical talent. His next door neighbour was Duane Pond of The Diamond Trio and the legendary Aubrey Hanson lived nearby.
Referred to as an "acclaimed veteran vocalist" by longtime Saint John music columnists - Gerry Taylor. Steve’s first public performance was at the age of 12 at the Orange Hall in Durham Bridge. From there Steve performed in and around the Fredericton, Boiestown and Doaktown areas. After graduating Fredericton High and Moncton Community College. Steve moved to Saint John where he performed with many local country acts in and around the greater Saint John area and other areas of New Brunswick. Steve then formed the Highway 40 Blues country band which was popular in the area for many years. Steve then joined the Lost Highway band where he has performed and co-managed the band for the last 18 years.
In 2006 Steve released his first solo CD "Hurtn' On Old Memories" with six original compositions and six country classics. His music was met with good reviews and he has had good success with his composition "Just Can't Face the Truth" being selected for a Canadian promotional compilation CD with TEASouth. His songs have been received well on local radio stations and have charted on several online radio stations.

Steve continues to write, record and produce and has a second CD project underway which he hopes to release in 2008. This project will include songs like "Small Town Miramichi" previewed in this EPK.
