Bio

Steven Compton started honing his singing skills as a young boy alongside his family in church in Oxford, NC. At home, his music fanatic parents often played piano and guitar, which Steven also started to learn. As he grew and discovered the vocal talents of Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Steve Perry and Steven Tyler, Steven immersed himself in the culture of rock and roll.

At fifteen, Steven started attending Carter Music and Art School in Clarksville, VA. He took piano, classical guitar and vocal lessons. Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Juliard and ran the school with her son, Vernon, who taught drums and string instruments. When Vernon heard Steven’s voice in action, he invited him to join one of the student bands. Steven joined Hexas and soon felt the true freedom to stretch his vocals into new ranges. Soon, Vernon decided he wanted Steven to front his own band, Zed. Though the band eventually had to break up when its members graduated from high school, Steven gained valuable experience and grew tremendously while with those two bands.

After high school, Steven enrolled at Cape Fear Community College. He did not feel challenged at that school, and due to excellence in his classes there he was able to transfer to UNC-Wilmington. Steven has been playing shows in Wilmington almost constantly since Fall 2010. He plays at Barbary Coast every Monday and The River Rat Holeinthewall every Wednesday. In addition to those shows, he has started to break into other markets in North Carolina, playing shows in Boone and at The Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh. Steven released his first EP, Fleeting Moments, in September 2011.
