Bio
Steven Mercyhill delivers a refreshingly original and intelligent brand of darkly beautiful yet alternately hard-hitting, melodic, hook-driven, alternative rock. Reminiscent of the eccentricities and melodic sensibilities of bands like "Radiohead" ,"The Verve", and "Arcade Fire", the intensity of "Stabbing Westward", as well as the poetry and stark intimacy of David Sylvain, Mercyhill forges this seemingly disparate and unlikely sonic palette into a remarkably unique, cohesive and identifiable sound all his own.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mercyhill has played extensively in a number of original bands including "Slam Bamboo" (which also spawned Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor) and "Breakfast In India" each of which garnered the serious interest of major record labels including Columbia, Epic, RCA, and A&M.
Mercyhill has also done film work, scoring the music for the trailers for both the New York Underground and Chicago Underground Film Festivals as well as having created the sound track for the award-winning film A.W.O.L.
In 2005, on the main stage at Cleveland's inaugural Ingenuity Festival of Art and Technology, Steven debuted a stunning and extremely well received set of new songs that he is now in the studio recording for upcoming release in 2006.
Large in scope though intimate in connection, Steven Mercyhill's songs, once inside you, are impossible to forget; they insinuate themselves into your consciousness ,evincing a timeless quality that lets you know they, as well as Mercyhill himself, will still be around and in your head long after most other bands have faded.
