Already Gone

ALREADY GONE
by Steven S. Billings
1990

Verse 1

Standing here before you,
I'm looking for the smile I've always known
But all I see is the pain
That takes its toll in a way
That make-up can't hide.

And as I see you lying there,
I'm waiting for you to open your eyes
But tears come to mine as I realize
This is our last goodbye.

Chorus

But you've already gone to the Father
He took away your pain and took you home
You've already gone to be with Jesus
No more dying there
And the joy you feel is a joy
We've never known.

Verse 2

As I walk through your door
I hold back the urge to call out your name
And the room seems so small
And yet so empty
With you not here.

And as I'm standing all alone
The silence makes familiar
Sights seem strange
And now I know that it was you
Who made it home for me
And now you've gone away.

Chorus

Yes, you've already gone to the Father
He took away your pain and took you home
You've already gone to be with Jesus
No more dying there
And the joy you feel is a joy
We've never known.

(Repeat)

Bridge

If you could see the tears I'm cryin'
I know what you'd say
There's no need for fear of dyin'
Jesus led the way
And we'll meet again someday.

Chorus

You've already gone to the Father
He took away your pain and took you home
You've already gone to be with Jesus
No more dying there
And the joy you feel is a joy
We've never known.

At Least a Thousand Reasons

AT LEAST A THOUSAND REASONS
(My Heart Don't Wanna Know)
by Steven S. Billings
September 8, 2005

Verse 1

There's at least a thousand reasons, girl,
To give up on your love
But I don't want to.
We're a thousand miles apart,
But you still own a piece of my heart
Because I love you (yeah, I do).

Sometimes I really wonder
What has gotten hold of me
I'm so much better off to be free!

Chorus 1

But my heart don't wanna know
No, no, no!
Yeah, my heart don't wanna know
It just can't let you go.

Verse 2

There's a thousand different methods
To a thousand different tasks
That you and me do.
There's a thousand different things
That I don't know about your past
But I don't need to (no, I don't).

You might steal the covers,
Make strange noises in your sleep
But, baby, that don't matter to me!

Chorus 2

‛Cause my heart don't wanna know
No, no, no!
Yeah, my heart don't wanna know
‛Cause it just loves you so.

Bridge

What I know is that I can see
Jesus in your heart
What I know is I think that's
The perfect place to start

There's a firm foundation
To the faith we both express
A thousand reasons left?
Let God take care of the rest!

Chorus 3

‛Cause my heart don't wanna know
No, no, no!
Yeah, my heart don't wanna know
My love wants to grow.

Big Little Man

BIG LITTLE MAN
by Steven S. Billings
September 1, 2005

Verse 1

David went up to the battle, where his brothers were fightin' the war.
On the other side, standin' ten feet high, was a giant just a-swingin' his sword.
When David heard the disparaging word that Goliath was slingin' at the Lord,
He said: "If you ain't gonna fight him, brothers, I'll delight in making them Philistines sore!"

Chorus 1

He was a big little man who took a stone in his hand,
And when he let it fly, they saw the giant die.
When you're a big little man, you do the best that you can.
And what you can't do, the Lord will do it for you.

Verse 2

Zacheus climbed to the top of a fig tree; he wanted to see for himself
The Savior passin' by, but he had to get up high to see around everybody else.
When Jesus came along, He said: "Zacheus, come on down; I'm eatin' at your house today,"
Zacheus let Him in, repented of his sin and gave a ton of money away!

Chorus 2

He was a big little man who took his riches in hand,
And gave back what he stole because the Lord made him whole.
When you're a big little man, you do the best that you can.
And what you can't do, the Lord will do it in you.

Bridge

Sometimes it seems there are things that are just too big for you.
On your own, all alone, far from home, son, you know that it's true.
In the test, do your best, leave the rest to Him and don't be blue.
Understand, little man, that His plan is to carry you through.

Chorus 3

You're a big little man; you're in the palm of His hand,
And He set you free (on Calvary), for what He's called you to be.
You're a big little man, and you're part of His plan,
And He wants you to know (He loves you so), that He'll never let you go.
You're a big little man; do the best that you can.
And what you never could do (little brother), He already did it for you!
You're a big little man ... [fade]

Cape Fear

CAPE FEAR
by Steven S. Billings
10-31-2005

Chorus

I ain't gonna wear no cape for you
‛Cause I ain't no Superman.
I'll do the best that I can do;
It's all that one man can.

I ain't gonna climb no cross for
And give up my life's blood,
‛Cause it's been done,
And I ain't the one.

Verse 1

Look at that lovely baby
Bouncin' on Mama's knee.
Poor little kid ain't got a clue
What he was born to be.

It's gonna take him years, in fact
Before he learns to see:
Mom and Dad had this little boy
To save their family.

He loves to play the hero;
It's the role that he knows best.
Everybody loves him;
They all call him "blessed."

They don't even know they use him
And suck up his energy.
And he don't even know he's got a weight around
his soul
‛Cause he don't know no other way to be!

CHORUS

Verse 2

Look at that lonely husband
Wonderin' what went wrong.
Poor old boy spent fifteen years
Forgettin' how to sing his song.

He thought he was her savior,
What she'd needed all along.
He thought he could handle everything;
He thought he was that strong.

He tried to be her hero;
It's the role that he knew best.
He thought it would make her love him,
It would feather their love-nest.

But it was he who needed rescuing
From his desire to please.
‛Cause he don't even know it's got a grip around his
throat
And it's been there so long he loves the squeeze!

CHORUS

GUITAR SOLO

Bridge

Changin' how you live
Ain't an easy thing to do.
Havin' my eyes opened was a shock
That I lived through.

I ain't goin' back to things
The way they used to be.
Now that I am free, no cape for me.
‛Cause I can't do it!

Last Chorus

I ain't gonna wear no cape for you
‛Cause I ain't no Superman.
I'll do the best that I can do;
It's all that one man can.

Jesus climbed that cross for
And gave up His life's blood,
Now it's all done;
He's the one.

My Home Is You

MY HOME IS YOU
by Steven S. Billings
September 6, 2005

Verse 1

Starin' at the walls of our living room
Feelin' so very alone
There is something I'm very sure is true
It's where I live, but it ain't home.

My mind drifts back to happier days gone by
When Mom and Dad would rescue me
I feel the empty rooms and I start to cry
Who holds me now when I skin my knee?

There was a time when I could climb the stairs
And see her lying in our bed
Her sleeping face would melt away all my cares
In the morning, here's what I said:

Chorus 1

My home is you wherever it might be
It really doesn't matter to me
Where we are or what we do
My home is you.

Verse 2

Now she's gone and I'm left here on my own
Feels like forever to me
Since there was a time when I felt at home
Since I had a place to be free.

My heart goes back to happier days with you
When Jesus crossed your path with mine
It was something I felt I must pursue
Even if just for a time.

You came into my life and the morning broke
Bringing me a brand-new day
A smile came to my face every time you spoke
Now there's something I've got to say:

Chorus 2

My home is you; can't get you out of my mind
No matter how I try, I find
That for me it still is true
My home is you.

Bridge

Relationships can come and go
But there is one thing that I know
Though I wish I had a home
I never truly am alone.

Verse 3

I remember, Jesus, one day You said
On the shores of Galilee
"The Son of Man has no place to lay His head"
I feel like You were speaking to me.

Foxes have holes and birds have nests
Other men have families
A place they can call home and find their rest
But what is there for me?

"Why be afraid, O ye of little faith?"
You ask me as You calm my storm
I see You dissipate my wind and waves
In You I'm safe and warm!

Chorus 3

My home is You wherever it might be
And You've prepared a place for me
But until then it still is true
My home is You!

Massimo Is Waiting

MASSIMO IS WAITING
4-13-2005
by Steven S. Billings

Massimo is waiting on the edge of a broken heart.
The object of his love has gone and set herself apart.
And though he keeps on smiling, his tears will never show,
Those who hold him close will always know.

Massimo is praying everything will be alright
But he's wondering if God heard his prayer tonight.

Massimo is waiting on the edge of a broken heart.
The object of his love has gone and set herself apart.
Massimo is lonely, but he'll stay on his own.
Without her love, he's better off alone.

I Give It All to You

I GIVE IT ALL TO YOU
by Steven S. Billings

Verse 1

Standing at this altar; Your hand in mine
I've never been more happy Than at this place and time
I used to be so selfish With all that I owned
But it cost me so dearly; Even broke up my home

But I thank my Savior For a new lease on life
And weep tears of joy Just to call you my wife
And from all that I've learned, I know what to do
Take all that I am And give it to you

Chorus 1

All of my hopes, All of my dreams
All of my plans, All of my schemes
All of my doubts, All of my fears
All of my love, Through all the years

Though great or small, I give it all
To you

Verse 2

Kneeling at this altar, My heart in Your hands
Dear Lord, I surrender This broken man
I've been so lonely; Jesus, You know
About all the sorrow That I can't let go

Savior, I need You More than I need breath
And I know You love me; You loved me to death
Lord God, that tells me What I need to do
Take all that I am And give it to You

Chorus 2

All of my hopes, All of my dreams
All of my plans, All of my schemes
My heart and soul, Each song that I sing
I hold nothing back; I give everything

Though great or small, I give it all
To You

Where Is the Love? (In the Body of Christ)

Written By: Steven S. Billings

WHERE IS THE LOVE?
(In the Body of Christ)
by Steven S. Billings

Chorus 1

Where is the love in the body of Christ?
Where is the love? Where is the Light?
So many churches in the world today,
Each one claiming that they teach The Way
But why does there always seem to be
struggle and strife?
Oh, where is the love In the Body of Christ?

Verse 1

We're called to be a shining city on a hill,
To love and serve each other,
to do the Father's Will.
But all we do is bicker, all we do is fight.
All we do is argue ‛bout who's wrong
and who is right.

We say we are forgiven; no matter what we do;
It's about the love of Jesus
who died for me and you.
But that leaves a question hangin' on my mind.
‛Bout why the love of Jesus is still so hard to find.
Can you tell me, please . . .

Chorus 2

Where is the love in the body of Christ?
Where is the love? Where is the Light?
So many splits in the church today
Makes me wanna fall down on my knees and pray
That by the power of God's Spirit
we'd all start livin' the life.
Oh, where is the love In the Body of Christ?

Verse 2

We say that we are loving, we say that we are kind,
Yet how quickly we can move ahead
and leave the rest behind.
We hide our flame under a bushel
so no one else can see;
We say our faith is only "between my God and me."

But brother, let me ask you; sister tell me true;
If you have the love of Jesus, what else can you do?
Than to reach out with compassion
to everyone in need
To speak the truth in love in all our
words and all our deeds.
Tell me, tell me, please . . .

(Chorus 1)

Bridge

Do you do praise and worship or sing the liturgy?
Should we reserve our love for the right theology?
I can see the Spirit in everything you do.
You don't have to look like me
for me to know your faith is true.

Dear Father, please forgive us
for lovelessness we show,
For lines of separation that we permit to grow.
(Oh, Lord Jesus)
If we confess together the tenets of the Creed,
Can't we all worship Jesus and fall down at His feet?
(Please forgive us!)
Oh, Lord, tell us please . . .

(Chorus 2)

The Puzzle Master

THE PUZZLE MASTER
by Steven S. Billings
8-29-2005

Verse 1

Puttin' together the pieces of the puzzle
See ‛em fit one by one
Little by little the pieces fill the middle
Until that puzzle's done.

Sittin' on the table is one big heap of trouble
Til the picture comes into view
Day by day, keep pluggin' away
Before you know it, you'll be through.

Chorus

Every puzzle has a process
A method, a system.
Every question has a purpose
An answer, a solution.

Verse 2

Wrackin' your brain, tryin' to fill the spaces
Of answer number 32 Down
A three-letter word for some exotic bird
That doesn't fly and makes no sound.

An ex-union boss is 27 Across
A word that has two "f"s and an "a"
Each clue you find can help you fill the others
With letters that can work both ways.

Chorus

Every puzzle has a process
A method, a system.
Every question has a purpose
An answer, a solution.

Bridge

Just like life, filled with many puzzles
Tryin' to find the answers is confusing.
Jesus Christ is the Puzzle Master
He has all the answers and is using
them to solve your puzzles.

Verse 3

Upwards, downwards, frontwards and backwards
Diagonally both ways too
It takes a keen eye, but you'll get it by and by
The letters left then give you a clue.

Check ‛em off the list to see the ones you've missed
So you won't end up in defeat
Circle every word and you will be assured
Your puzzle soon will be complete.

Chorus

Every puzzle has a process
A method, a system.
Every question has a purpose
An answer, a solution.

Old Luggage

OLD LUGGAGE
By Steven S. Billings
June 13, 2011

Verse 1
Stumblin’ into the railway station Hopin’ I’m on time.
Fumblin’ with my bags Just tryin’ to keep them all in line.
My shoulders ache, my back is tired
From draggin’ ‘round this pile of old luggage.

Just then the Redcap man Approaches with a smile
And says, “Why don’t you let me Hold those bags for you awhile?”
I look at him suspiciously,
But feel the pain again from old luggage.

I contemplate my options as I wonder what’s the fee.
Then from out of nowhere comes this voice inside of me
And says,

Chorus
“Set ‘em down at the Porter’s feet; You can’t bear them anymore.
One more step, your strength will fail, so lay ‘em on the floor.
Set ‘em down and climb aboard.”

Verse 2
One by one I hand the man A suitcase from the pile.
Each one is distinctive In its color, shape and style.
Imagine my surprise when I discover
I have pride in old luggage!

Lovingly I watch the Porter Stack ‘em on his cart.
I feel the separation as it Tugs upon my heart.
How could I feel so attached
To things that weigh me down like old luggage?

One more bag to hand him But it seems I can’t let go.
My heart wants me to keep it But my mind is yelling, “No!
You got to . . .

Chorus
Set it down at the Porter’s feet; You can’t bear it anymore.
One more step, your strength will fail, so lay it on the floor.
Set it down and climb aboard.”

Bridge
We all carry baggage From our past we can’t let go.
Memories of losses and Regrets from long ago.
But there is one who died for you To mend your broken heart.
He’s waiting now to heal you And there’s just one way to start.
You gotta . . .

Chorus
Lay it down at the Savior’s feet; You can’t bear it anymore.
Jesus wants to heal you and is waiting at the door, so
Lay it down and climb aboard. Yeah,

Lay it down at the Savior’s feet; You can’t bear it anymore.
Jesus wants to heal you and is waiting at the door, so
Lay it down and climb aboard.
Lay it down and climb aboard.

THE DRAGON

Chorus

This monster I live with is ugly and mean;
The nastiest dragon that you've ever seen.
He scratches and bites and he roars and he screams.
He's with me all day and at night in my dreams.

Verse 1

I met him one day when I was just a boy.
A neighborhood dog treated me like a toy.
He meant not to harm me, but wound me he did.
The scars from his chains I successfully hid.

CHORUS

Verse 2

The dragon came home with me e'er since that day.
Despite how I plead, he just won't go away.
The day that I met him is one I regret.
He says: "I run your life now; don't ever forget!"

Verse 3

But I have a Savior who quite disagrees.
He wields a broad Sword that sets all captives free.
His Word slashes through all my fear and my dread,
Killing the dragon by crushing his head!

Drinkin' Daisies

DRINKIN’ DAISIES
by Steven S. Billings

Chorus
Drinkin’ daisies as the sun begins to rise;
I’m intoxicated by the light in her eyes.
It’s so amazing how the time quickly flies.
(Oh, how I love) Drinkin’ daisies with the love of my life.

Verse 1
The six o’clock alarm declares a new day has begun.
I descend the stairs and see there’s so much to be done.
The grass could use a cuttin’ and the window in the hall’s been stickin’ again. (Such is life.)

I join her in the kitchen as she puts the kettle on.
We kiss each other sweetly then we watch the waking dawn.
I find myself a grinnin’ as it hits me once again: I’ve fallen in love
(With my wife)! And we’re ...

CHORUS

Verse 2
Amid the paisley pattern of another busy day
I stare out into nowhere as my thoughts just drift away.
I feel her in my arms, and I could swear I hear her laughin’, callin’ my name. (Am I insane?)

Jolted from my daydream by a ringin’ of the phone,
I glance up at the clock and wonder how long ‘til I’m home.
The minutes crawl like hours ‘til I’m finally out the door and on my way (to see her again). And we’ll be ...

CHORUS

Bridge
There’s a little flower here that grows along the lane.
She calls ‘em daisies but they have another name.
In fact, you prob’ly know it as a tea that’s come to have a great appeal: Chamomile!

Verse 3
I lie awake here in the early pre-dawn light.
I can’t believe the gift of God to sleep here every night,
To wake here every morning and to wear her wedding ring, I thank You, Lord! (For the joy she brings).

It won’t be long before that radio comes on
And gives its daily warning just before the break of dawn
And before you know it we’ll be sitting down to tea and giving thanks. (It’s a wonderful thing!) And we’ll be ...

CHORUS
