Biography

Steve Simmons is a singer/songwriter, originally from Perth on the west coast of Australia. Steve first played professionally as a drummer and recorded a number of albums/singles with various bands. By age 19 the dream of becoming a singer was fulfilled and within 12 months, was fronting the biggest band on the west coast at the time. A short stint in the USA was followed by a relocation to Sydney, and 3 years with an original act that released 2 albums and various singles throughout Europe & Japan. After the act split, Steve headed south to Melbourne, where he still resides. He gigs 5 to 6 times most weeks - with shows ranging from solo acoustic sets to nightclub and pub gigs with bands as well as casinos and major corporate events. Steve also works as a professional actor, with credits including guest roles in shows like Neighbours, Last Man Standing, Stingers etc, plus numerous film and tv commercial roles. In 2004 Steve Simmons entered the studio to record some demos for the 'Glass' ep. Inspired by classic guitar fuelled power pop, brit pop and sometimes a hint of something darker, a live ensemble was formed and started gigging around Melbourne, Australia as 'Steve Simmons Band.' Within a few months the band had already notched up some impressive live performances in some of Melbourne's biggest and best venues (including a slot at Melbourne's biggest festival, The St. Kilda Festival). Now, in 2008 the band has just released 'HERE I AM,' an 11 song follow up to Glass.

Lyrics

making my own way

Written By: steve simmons

when i can’t get in a word, it’s hard to fight - if there’s somewhere else you’d rather be - well i don’t mind -
i hide behind the stain glass wall, lost in time - i see shadows of my former self - walk on by, on by * i walk into the hall - and whisper my goodbyes - a casual last glance * and i’m making my own way - and i’m heading right back where i belong - got to do it my own way - i’m moving on * you always start to scream in my ear - i could tell you what u want me - if that’s what you need - what u need, yeah yeah * what started with a smile - will finish just the same - two faces on a wall * and i’m making my own way - and i’m heading right back where i belong - got to do it my own way - i’m moving on * there’s a chance that i could fall down yeah - but it must be better than the thought of dying slowly - and that will happen if i stay here * and i’m making my own way - and i’m heading right back where i belong - got to do it my own way - i’m moving on

glass

thoughts in my head - i contemplate what you said - i see your eyes - and there’s more to this i know - hours then pass - my feelings broken like glass - upon the floor - like tiny fragments of my life * but now there is no more time - nothing left to mend * our final scene is played out here - the flame has died for us i fear - so one last kiss on this cold night - and we’ll both walk away * back in the house - the mood has totally changed - your point of view - obscured by stupid petty lies - under my door - the note that you slipped before - just said goodbye - no reason why * this is the end of us there’s no regrets, i know all things must pass - such a fragile creature our love was just like glass * our final scene is played out here - the flame has died for us i fear - so one last kiss on this cold night - just show me * how i can rediscover freedom - for you i tried to be an endless ocean - a magic place to run and hide from all the world outside *
there is a place our hearts can go - a time when love was all we’d know - and when we hear that song commence - it’s time to part while we’re still friends

tell you why

Written By: steve simmons

floating in space - i tried to catch a star that’s falling - a meteor shower of you rains down over me -
stuck in a void - even time has got no meaning - the loneliest place is inside a crowd of me * as the thought of you enters my head - only you could break my fall - and although far apart we’re spread - i give you all * you are the one, you always make it turn around - and i’ll always be with you oh - there is a place, we can make it if we try - cause i’m never too far away to send all my love to you * stumbling along - you were the last thing i expected - i straight away knew you were sent down here for me - too many times, i was searching for a reason - now i can see it standing right in front of me *
and it feels like i waited so long - for something this good to arrive - i know that you’ll never be gone - from my life * you are the one, you always make it turn around - and i’ll always be with you - there is a place, we can make it if we try - cause i’m never too far away to send all my love to you * i wanna be with you - you’re always in my head, don’t you ever doubt - i wanna be with you - don’t you know it’s you - i cannot do without * as the thought of you enters my head - i give you all * you are the one, you always make it turn around - and i’ll always be with you oh - there is a place, we can make it if we try - cause i’m never too far away to send all my love to you * i wanna be with you - you’re always in my head, don’t you ever doubt - i wanna be with you - don’t you know it’s you - i cannot do without

Here I Am

Written By: Steve Simmons

when we spoke this morning - i didn’t think there’s any doubt - you don’t need to prove u know how - to let me down -
its an even chance i’m taking - i may lose again but i don’t know - there is something in the wind now - telling me
to go *
here i am - maybe now - i will stand on my own somehow * didn’t seem to be a reason - but i knew you’d find one anyway - as i turn to face tomorrow - i here myself say * here i am - maybe now - i will stand on my own somehow
