STEVE SINGH – BIOGRAPHY

unemployment records

I do everything myself! I don't sit around and wait for anything!!! I have booked 3 U.S. tours and 3 UK tours. I now have an agent in the UK, which is nice and I will be returning there in March. Here's the BIO and Press:

Steve Singh is a Toronto singer-songwriter. Singh has played extensively in the UK and North America with the likes of Bert Jansch, Sarah Harmer, Tom Russel, Ron Sexsmith, Hayden, Pete Morton, John Wesley Harding, Kiki Dee, Jesse Malin, Hawksley Workman, and members of R.E.M. “I’ll Make You Want To Stay” (from “I Will Not Break Your Heart”) is featured in the movie “Sugar” co-starring Sarah Polly.

“ My new record (I Will Not Break Your Heart) is extremely subtle from the production values to the sentiments themselves. I strongly believe that if a song can not be stripped down to its basic elements, then the song itself sucks. Drowning a record in over production is the easiest and lamest thing to do to cover up bad songwriting. This record is little more than lightly embellished. I play most of my shows solo and the record reflects that.”
This record was produced by John Dinsmore (Sarah Harmer, Danny Michel, Sarah Slean, Oh Susanna, Jim Bryson) and Steve Singh. Mark Kesper (Hawksley Workman) played drums and Peter Kesper (Hawksley Workman) played pedal steel. NQ Arbuckle, Robin Black and Scott Acomba all dropped by to add some vocals. Jay Elliot (Cash Brothers, Martin Tielli, Barenaked Ladies, etc) mixed it up at Hawksley Workman's Schoolhouse. Noah Mintz mastered it.

“ it is hard to resist the charms of this record. His voice has the ability to wrap itself around the words and imbue them with personality appropriate to the lyric being sung. I’ll be holding onto this for a while.” - Americana UK
“ I found myself sort of sucked into it… Lovely lyrics too…and by all accounts, he’s wonderful live.” Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2 - London, UK
"...pure pop melodies, richly detailed lyrics, and the kind of hooks that hits are made of." - Larry Flick, Billboard Magazine – NYC

“…absorbing lyrics and excellent melodies. Singh sings and plays with the maturity and confidence of some of the best folks out there.” – Babysue.com – Cleveland, USA

“…lullaby melodies that waft in on balmy morning breezes and fade away into still city nights, leaving the scent of romance behind in the air. "- Mike Davies, Netrhythms.com, UK.
"Singh's subject matter is urban and heartfelt -- he humbly explores personal . relationships, chance situations and slice-of-life subtleties with the ease of a gentle breeze." - Kevin Hainey, EYE Magazine-Toronto

“This is a CD filled with humor, sweetness, intelligence and originality. He could have also called it ‘I will not write anything boring or predictable’”–The Muses’ Muse - USA

" It's not often that a wordy writer with clever narratives is able to shape them into great songs but Toronto singer/songwriter pulls it off with amazing aplomb." -Michael Barclay, Exclaim! Magazine – Toronto

"Ignore the album title "I Will Not Break Your Heart", Steve Singh's album of the same name will do exactly that! Lyrical, romantic and simply moving…" -Jacquelyn Francis, Umbrella Music – Toronto

"This is an album that you're guaranteed to play again and again. This entire album is great." -Persnickety Picks Online
“Stripped down, intelligent, melodic and lovely…” Mary Dickie, Toronto Sun

Lyrics

I’ll Make You Wanna Stay

Written By: Steve Singh

Sit back and relax
And tell me how your day went
I’ll pour you a tumbler full of wine
I must say you look smashing
You don’t have to ask me darling
I’ll never say that you look just fine

Blueberry pancakes
French toast for dessert
I’ll make it better
Just show me where it hurts

In my own little way
I’ll make you wanna stay

I got you some Baileys
For your Christmas morning coffee
And there’s more
if you find that you’re done
I’ll work on the sky
When we do our cottage puzzle
You can work on the barn - it’s more fun

I’ll do the dishes
Tomorrow for sure
Ask you how your day was
When you walk through the door

In my own little way
I’ll make you wanna stay

I’ll use extra Downy
To lighten your load
I’ll laugh at your jokes when
They’re tired and old
In my own little way
I’ll make you wanna stay
What would they say
If I made you wanna stay
I’ll need your OK
Then I’ll make you wanna stay

A Little Squirrel Like You

Written By: Steve Singh

Did it kick and fuss and scream
When you dragged the music back to the mainstream
Did it curse you did it fight
When you put the song back into the spotlight

Was relief or was it rage
When you dragged yourself across that same old stage
Did you think 'where were you yesterday?'
When they sat and listened to every word you had to say

I’m talking behind the psychics back
It led to a massive heart attack
How could I think that I could fool
A little squirrel like you

The sun it sinks below the field
The air is still and your fate’s been sealed
All the trouble you’ve been in
This harbor’s no place for a midnight swim

Are you just a flashing light?
I’m just saying man - I don’t want to fight
On your epitaph
You can say you made the whole world laugh

I’m talking behind the psychics back
It led to a massive heart attack
How could I think that I could fool
A little squirrel like you

Skip The Flowers

Written By: Steve Singh

I’ve been thinking for a little while
I’ve love your company I love your smile
Skip the flowers and the ceremony
Grab my hand and just marry me

Listen closely I’ve got something to say
I don’t do things in the usual way
Complicated’s something I’ll never be
Grab my hand and just marry me

Just say OK
It’s a beautiful day
Throw your worries in the sea
And watch them drift away

We’ve been together for a couple of years
The words you say are music to my ears
I’ll teach you to sing a little harmony
Grab my hand and just marry me

All my other songs are on the shelf
When you tell the truth it tends to write itself
I’ll quit my job we’ll build a house in a tree
Grab my hand and just marry me

Just say OK
It’s a beautiful day
Throw your worries in the sea
And watch them drift away

Of all the things that I’ve said and done
I never thought that I’d found the one
To watch the night fall on the setting sun
Well who knew love could be so much fun

Just say OK
It’s a beautiful day
Toss your worries in the sea
And watch them drift away
