Steve Subrizi

Steve Subrizi

BandFolkAcoustic

Catchy twee pop with my fairly unaffected voice and strumming guitar. Fellow open mic-ers have complimented my "tell-it-like-it-is" lyrical style, and have drawn comparisons to Belle & Sebastian, The Decemberists, and Violent Femmes.

Biography

Single boy with guitar from New England seeks venue who is up for adventure. Turn-ons include pop art, Hemingway novels, DIY-ism, and hugs.

I'm a creative writing major at Emerson College, yet I can't manage to weave a compelling flash fiction out of my bio. Anyway, some of my influences are The Velvet Underground, The Modern Lovers, Elvis Costello, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Mountain Goats, and Belle & Sebastian.

One thing that sets my music apart from most other music is that I don't take myself very seriously. My lyrics owe some of their self-deprecating charm to Morrissey, but I'm usually less mopey. On the downside, I might not be as clever, but that's for the court to decide.

Lyrics

All The Girls Have Boyfriends.

Written By: Steve Subrizi

All the girls have boyfriends
Oh no
All the girls have boyfriends
Oh no

All around the world
All around the world

All the girls have boyfriends
All the girls have boyfriends
All the girls have boyfriends
They just want to be friends
All the girls have boyfriends
Even some of the lesbians

All around the world
All around the world

All the girls have boyfriends
All the girls have boyfriends
All the girls have boyfriends
I guess I should just let it go
All the girls have boyfriends
At least they tell me so

The Stars Are Out Tonight.

Written By: Steve Subrizi

The stars are out tonight
Soon the morning will come
The stars are out tonight
Soon the morning will come

And in your car, there's a radio
Music's playing and you're driving kind of slow
'cause nobody's waiting for us where we're gonna go
The old cafe
Look at the sky

The stars are out tonight
Soon the morning will come
The stars are out tonight
Soon the morning will come

In the old cafe, there are singers and drunks
The coffee's bitter and the music's junk
and within half an hour, we'll be well-sunk
into our chairs
Let's go outside

The stars are out tonight
We're gonna get some mosquito bites
You dyed your hair a kind of blondish-white
I wanna hold you while you're holding me tight

And in your car, there are so few words
You tell me how your boyfriend's been treating you worse
and I wish I could convince you in another verse
to finally ditch him
I wish

But the stars are out tonight
Let's not have a fight
If you don't turn off your bedroom light
before I leave, I guess that's alright

The stars are out tonight
The stars are out tonight
The stars are out tonight
The stars are out tonight
The stars are out tonight
but soon the morning will come

Three Cheers For The Nice Ones!

Written By: Steve Subrizi

The first girl who ever kissed me was a train
She never made me explain
the metaphors in my songs
I found it sweet when she'd sing along
She whistled my song
while another one wandered into my brain

The next girl was a stone
She took awhile answering her phone
but I made it to her house
She let me look at me on her couch
She told me she was insane
and asked me to go away

And it's for her that I usually sing
It's that stupid Madonna-Whore thing
But three cheers for the nice ones
Three cheers for the nice ones
Three cheers for the nice ones

Because all the pretty folks in the place tonight are just birds on a telephone wire
I can't be the only one hoping that somebody's got one eye slung over my shoulder
Send her over
Send her over
Send her over
Come on over
Let's hear it

Let's hear it for the nice ones
Let's hear it for the nice ones
Three cheers for the nice ones
Hip hip hoorah
Hip hip hoorah
Hip hip hoorah
