Talkin with Papa

Written By: Steve Whalen Barnes

Don't bother me today
please don't try to call me
Don't look for me around town
you'll never find me
I'm talkin with papa
We're talkin bout the eskimos
I'm talkin with Papa
Sit back and let the whiskey flow
And it flows
Don't ask for no favors today
Cause I won't even know the time
Don't leave me no message
Don't you know I'm in a different state of mind
I'm talkin with Papa
We're talkin bout the Alamo
I'm talkin with Papa
Sit back and watch the daylight go
And it goes
To the summer night and the time goes by so easily
Just pass the day drinkin and talkin about cars, and how it used to be
And there's no place else I'd rather be
So don't bother me today
Please don't try to call me
Don't look for me around town
You know you'll never find me
I'm talkin with Papa
We're talkin bout the olden days
I'm talkin with Papa
We're listenin to the Red Sox play
I'm talkin with Papa
I know there'll always be a day
For talkin with Papa
The whole day

I kinda like you

Written By: Steve Whalen Barnes

I see two little kids running in the back yard
And the swing set I built with the tools in the garage
And honey I see you sittin there in your favorite chair
I see a little white house and a picket fence
And the pickup truck that we bought with our pennies
That I drive home from work and say how was your day baby
I see no more blue
I see a love so true
And honey I see it with you
I see you laying down after a long mothers day
As I lay down beside you and talk about the way
Things used to be and how far we've come
I see me running my hands through your hair
Watch you fall asleep and not a moment to spare
I doze off beside you with the tv still on
I see no more blue
I see a love so true
And honey I see it with you
I see us in the Summer in a cabin in the woods
As we talk around the fire bout how much the kids have grown
Then I look at you, and remember the first time I saw your face
I see a long Summers day and a cold Winters night
I feel the warmth of your body when I pull it close to mine
I see the years flying by us but you and me will never change
I see no more blue
I see a love so true
And honey I see it with you

Life's a paper cup

Written By: Steve Whalen Barnes

There ain't no use in me closing my eyes cause i'd just wake up
the seasons change God's reasons are strange life's a paper cup
Hearts grow cold and leaves turn old it's a fact of life
But when your souls entwined and it's not their time how do you say goodbye
Jesus why do your angels cry
Is heaven a place or a lie
Is this dream my reality or is my faith in you my fatality
There ain't no use in me trying to love cause my heart has died
One's mans trash it's another man's dream i know love ain't blind
But living in sin and believing in him it just impossible
Cause when everything's right and the pains out of sight it comes and topples you
Jesus why do your angels cry
Is heaven a place or a lie
Is this dream my reality or is my faith in you my fatality
There ain't no use in my looking at the sky cause my eyes are shut
This whole worlds fall'n apart people turning on themselves so I'm just giving up
Cause what's the sense of praying when your hands are tied and you've had enough
We're all asking for the check so Jesus please come back and put and end to us
Jesus why does your father hide
If your the savior then now is the time
Is this dream our reality or is our faith in your love our fatality
There ain't no use in me trying to believe cause my faith is gone
The destruction and hate it just fills me with rage and then I'm one of them
How can these people be so evil and cold when we're from the same cloth
We blame everyone else point the finger at yourselve's it's our souls that have been bought
Jesus listen your angel is crying
He's really tired and he wouldn't mind dying
Please end this long fight every angel's got the right to go down quietly
There ain't no use in me closing my eyes cause i'd just wake up
The seasons change God's reasons are strange life's a paper cup

Jersey Turnpike blues

Written By: Steve Whalen Barnes

Well it seems like only yesterday that the night was young and I began to play a song that I thought would light the spark in a little cafe on the corner of the beach from the start, I tried to win her heart, but all I won was pieces

And somewhere way down south of here there's a small little town and with so much fear, I drank that bottle til I saw stars in a little motel in the corner of the street in the dark, I tried to play my part, I only played for pieces

It's a long way home, and I'm alone again, and this highway has seen the best and the worst of me
But it's on this road that I've become a man, but that don't set my mind at ease and it don't bring the girl from Jersey back to me

Morning came in a pickup truck with an aching head and a pain in my heart, as the sun shone through the tinted glass on a storybook morning in the middle of a cab in a park, I turned the key to start, and turned myself to pieces

It's a long way home and I'm alone again. And this highway has seen the best and the worst of me
But it's on this road that i've become a man, but that don't set my mind at ease and it don't bring the girl from Jersey back to me
