Biography

Upon returning from his recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios in London, England, Steve Wilson has released his debut solo effort titled "Running To Catch." The 24 year-old singer-songwriter has undoubtedly proven his talent as a recording artist in today’s changing music industry.

After years of polishing his craft as a finesse player with his acoustic guitar and a distinct voice, Wilson started informally recording acoustic demos in his home studio, which he would occasionally hand out at live performances to those who showed interest in his sound. With encouraging feedback about the demos, Steve began playing college parties and small clubs with a rotating cast of musician friends who would sit in and add a complementary backing to his songs. The idea of recording some sessions with a full band began to be thrown around.

Steve took these song ideas into recording studios in Raleigh, North Carolina and Philadelphia, PA to start pre-production to initially shape the overall sound of the songs.
The time in the studio ended up sparking many new song ideas for Wilson. It was at that time, it was decided that the 5 or 6 song EP would be extended into a full length album that would be recorded with a band.

“I decided I was going to try to make a dent in the music business. We gathered an all-star roster of players with the goal being to create the best sounding album we could make…so we went to Abbey Road. It’s important to put your very best foot forward to showcase your sound if you plan on creating a niche for yourself in this business. We went to Abbey Road because of its amazing sound and unparalleled history (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead). The energy that we had while recording there was amazingly positive. We didn’t feel that it was a task, because the energy was so pure. We weren’t recording, we were performing…and I think that’s apparent when you listen to the CD…we all had a great time.” –Wilson

Wilson is joined on the album by Scott Bricklin from Paris, Philadelphia drummer Matt Muir, as well as drummer Stephen "Apple Juice Kid" Levitin and bassist Matt Brandau (The Old Ceremony) out of Chapel Hill. Other guest performances include Allyn Love on pedal steel and Jim Crew on keys. These players each brought their own energy to the grouping of songs written by the young up-and-comer whose songwriting style is quite mature for only being in his mid-twenties. This eclectic, ten-song track listing appropriately showcases Steve’s unique sound and hints that he is not going anywhere but forward in his career to come.
