It should have been my brother, Dave, who became the musician since he had the guitar and had the lessons. However, he lost interest and at 16 years of age I took an interest in music. I wanted to be a sound engineer - but since Dave wouldn't play - I decided to play and record my pieces. By 17 years of age I started to compose. Moving to Scotland and out of work for a while, I became a postman. I became aware of the rhythm of the stride I was taking and became prolific in composition. Not wanting to forget my ideas, I wrote it down on a scrap of paper and recorded after my delivery. My wife was very pleased with the composition dedicated to her "Pearl In the Ocean" since her name "Margaret" means "Pearl."
This was a real step in another direction for me - since I was heavily into Deep Purple and John McLaughlin - and here I was making a relaxing melody which was commercial. Others followed across a wide spectrum of styles including the American cop movie style of Jazz Rock. I then felt I had to focus on our Video Production business which meant putting music on the back burner. But hey, I've found I still have it in me - and the proliferation of compositions and ideas is still there after 30 years.
