"CD Release Show"

Rarely does an artist embody the qualities of the venue they're playing but Stevie D of Stevie D and the No Shows fits the bill with his organic, play-what you-know, play-what-you've-learned style. He adapted it playing in various punk, oldies and R&B-inspired bands around North Central Florida and eventually decided to perform his original songs through a drum, bass and acoustic-guitar trio, just enough of a band to add color to the palette but not enough to splatter it against the walls. He's a veteran of the Gainesville music scene and a do-it-yourselfer, perfect for the Tim and Terry's spirit.

Stevie D and the No Shows will host their CD release show for the album "Something's Wrong" on Saturday night and provide listeners with a sense of what makes their music consistently interesting - there are enough lyrics to rival a Chuck Berry or Bruce Springsteen record, but the lyrics are written and delivered in a style reminiscent of Tom Gabel from Against Me! with force and vigor. That's what we've been waiting for from an acoustic artist isn't it? One filled with piss and vinegar instead of sorrow and self-doubt? - Gainesville Sun

"Compress Write-Up"

Started in 2005 as an acoustic solo project for singer/songwriter Steven Davis a.k.a. Stevie D, Stevie D and The No Shows quickly gained recognition in their hometown of Gainesville Florida. Naturally, the one man show grew into a full band, adding veteran bass player Jesse Burke and drummer Chris Langley to the lineup.

Though the group merges aspects of folk, country, rock and blues, it's not what you'd expect from traditional country revivalists or avid folkies; they're just as likely to throw in a quick reggae jam in the middle of a country/punk song, or break out a harmonica for a modern folk/rock tune. Fans and newcomers alike are sure to find a surprise or two, and surely something they like about this up-and-coming trio.

"First Full Band Show"

While the vocals are that of a lo-fi punk rocker who used to take singing lessons, this band doesn't just work in hints of genres. If there's going to be country in the music, you might as well go ahead and play a country song.

It's a transcontinental journey with these people. You start at the modern Cali acoustic surf rock, head past the cowboy-western and the Americana until you hit the Southern blues, where you hang a left for the East-coast angsty rock and roll.

Throughout jumping all over the place, Stevie D still maintains a consistent feel. Instead of resembling a cover band with a short attention span, as so many do, he simply appears as someone who likes a lot of different types of music, and can pull most of them off on stage.

The odds say you'll probably run into a song or two that doesn't suit you. Few people are being honest when they claim they like a "little bit of everything." But show me one band without that black mark on their permanent record.

On the whole, Stevie D and the No Shows is an experience worth repeating. - The Gainesville Sun
